About this trip

Widely accepted as the most physically demanding section of the entire 680km track, the southern leg of the Australian Alps Walking Track (AAWT) takes you through a constantly shifting landscape.

Beginning at Mt Hotham, the journey kicks off by tackling The Twins before traversing the Barry Mountains. From there, the route plunges into the remote Razor-Viking Wilderness, renowned for its steep ridges and expansive views.  Traverse the "Crosscut Saw," a razorback ridge that offers one of the most famous silhouettes in the Australian mountains. Leaving the jagged mountains behind, the trail winds across the sub-alpine Baw Baw Plateau - a prehistoric landscape of granite boulders and snow gums. Conclude with a descent into the historic gold mining town of Walhalla, the southern terminus of the AAWT.

We approach this journey as a collaborative expedition. Join as a teammate, not just a passenger, playing an active role in the daily success of the trip. Our guides are there to mentor you through the challenges of the High Country, sharing the hard-won skills that make long-distance hiking safe and enjoyable. It is the perfect training ground for anyone dreaming of tackling long distance trails on their own.
