From this scenic viewpoint, we will enjoy spectacular views of San Pablo Lake, the largest highland lake in Ecuador, nestled at the foot of the majestic Imbabura Volcano (4,630 m / 15,190 ft). We will take a short break to sample one of the region's most beloved traditional treats: freshly baked bizcochos, served with local cheese and accompanied by a delicious cup of Ecuadorian coffee or tea.

Continuing our journey, we arrive in the vibrant town of Otavalo, renowned throughout South America for its rich indigenous heritage and world-famous handicraft market. The majority of the population belongs to the Kichwa Otavalo community, whose traditions, colorful attire, and entrepreneurial spirit create a unique cultural atmosphere.Before entering the market, your guide will provide helpful insights into its history, traditions, and best shopping opportunities. The market is famous for its exceptional textiles and handicrafts, including alpaca sweaters, scarves, ponchos, hats, gloves, blankets, tablecloths, silver jewelry, leather goods, and finely crafted wooden artwork. Later, we visit the beautiful Peguche Waterfall, a sacred site deeply connected to the spiritual traditions of the indigenous communities of the region. For centuries, this waterfall has served as a ceremonial place of purification, especially during Inti Raymi, the Festival of the Sun. The flowing waters symbolize life, renewal, fertility, cleansing, and transformation. Surrounded by native forest, this peaceful sanctuary offers both natural beauty and cultural significance.
A Journey into the Music of the Andes
Our final stop takes us to the Ñanda Mañachi workshop, where traditional Andean musical instruments are handcrafted by local artisans. A member of the family will demonstrate the sounds and techniques of various Andean instruments while sharing the history of their musical traditions. The workshop was founded by José, a former member of the internationally recognized Ñanda Mañachi musical group. At the conclusion of the demonstration, visitors have the opportunity to support this local family by purchasing handmade instruments directly from the artisans if they wish.
