About this trip

Two Week Meditation Training Course with Eileen Tupaz

This 100 hour intensive is for individuals who wish to cultivate or deepen a meditation practice or who wish to lead the practice for others. As the popularity of mindfulness and meditation grows all around the world, the need for highly competent and compassionate teachers has risen as well. This course will allow you to join a growing global movement of individuals who are dedicating their practice and teaching to the happiness and freedom of all beings.

What Can This Course Do For You?

This 100 hour intensive is designed to support you in your intention to cultivate or deepen a meditation practice while also equipping you to lead the practice to others. As the popularity of mindfulness and meditation grows all around the world, the need for highly competent, compassionate and well-rounded teachers has risen as well. This course will allow you to join a growing global movement of individuals who are dedicating their practice and teaching to the happiness and freedom of all beings.

This pioneering program synthesizes explorations of the latest scientific findings from the fields of cognitive neuroscience, evolutionary biology and interpersonal neurobiology with examinations of the foundational meditation texts from the Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Classroom lectures are interspersed with guided meditations and capped with immersive sessions on how to teach and guide others in the practice.

By the end of the intensive, participants will be thoroughly grounded in the science, history, philosophy and practices of meditation and empowered to transform their lives, the lives of others and the well-being of the planet in profoundly positive ways.

No previous meditation experience is required to participate in the course. However, individuals will derive much more benefit from the program by gaining some meditation experience already. Yoga teachers who complete this course may also credit its 100 hours as part of a Yoga Alliance-registered 300 Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training Program.

What Will This Course Cover?

The content of this course will cover four major areas of study:

MEDITATION AND SCIENCE. Over the last five decades, more than a thousand publications have documented the manifold physiological and psychological benefits of meditation, from boosting immunity and increasing longevity to enhancing mental acuity and improving emotional resilience. In this module, participants will explore findings from classic disciplines such as anthropology, biology, psychology and sociology and multidisciplinary fields such as cognitive neuroscience, evolutionary biology, interpersonal neurobiology and even neurotheology to gain a comprehensive and detailed overview of how the practice of meditation transforms human lives by literally changing the structure and the function of the human brain. By understanding the science behind the practice, students can begin designing powerful and innovative ways of extending the benefits of meditation beyond the cushion and into the world.

MEDITATION AND SPIRITUALITY. While the science about it and around it is relatively recent, meditation itself has been around for thousands of years with roots reaching back into humanity’s prehistory. Although the practice has correlates in all major wisdom traditions, meditation as a formal system was developed out of the spiritual traditions of ancient India. In this module, participants will explore the cultural and religious context out of which meditation evolved and how its practices were formalized in Hindu and Buddhist thought. By understanding the spirituality behind the practice, students can begin recognizing the profound relevance and significance of this ancient method for contemporary times.

MEDITATION AND PRACTICE. As the popularity of meditation increases, so does the number of its applications and techniques—with significant consequences on the effectiveness of the practice. In this module, participants will experience the major formal and informal techniques of meditation and learn to distinguish when a practice is authentically meditative in nature and when it is not. By understanding the essence of the practice, students can navigate effectively through the vast number of techniques available today and, more importantly, identify which technique can benefit and deepen their practice the most.

MEDITATION AND TEACHING. As the relevance of meditation increases, so does the demand for people who can effectively teach or train others in its techniques. In this module, participants will learn how to introduce other people to the practice of meditation and to lead brief guided meditations using the most common methods. More importantly, participants will begin to appreciate how—unlike the teaching of other skills—the teaching of meditation demands that the teacher embody certain qualities that can only be cultivated by living life a certain way. By appreciating the ethics behind the practice, students can begin exploring how to live life so that the distinction between times spent on the cushion and off the cushion begins to disappear.

What Do Course Graduates Say?

“The 100 Hour Meditation Teacher Training with Teacher Eileen was a richly introspective and interactive learning journey that provided a safe space for deep inner reflection and transformational sharing. On a personal level, I now have a more grounded understanding of my own practice and how and why it has improved my life over recent years. In addition, the exposure to and immersion in different meditation techniques has given me a better idea of which ones I would like to study further and eventually teach. On a professional level, I’m better equipped to provide a safe learning and practice environment for my students, having gotten the necessary information on the physical and psychological effects of meditation, including contraindications, as well as being exposed to the history and philosophy of meditation.”

- January Cresta Gabriel; Corporate Learning Manager, Fitness Instructor and Yoga Teacher

“The 100 Hour Meditation Teacher Training with Teacher Eileen flipped my world around—which was a complete but pleasant and welcome surprise. Because of the training, I’ve become more mindful with my actions, my words and even my thoughts. It’s a small thing that has affected every aspect of my life, from the way I work, to my relationships, to the way I treat myself. I’ve learned to tune into myself and treat myself with kindness and compassion. I’m also more aware of my bad habits and catch myself when I’m about to think, say or do something that isn’t so great. And at work, I found that the training and the self-awareness and mindfulness it cultivated helped me get more done with less (sometimes, even zero) stress. I feel this program has totally shifted the way I live. It’s been the most transformative training I have ever taken!”

- Patricia Labrador; Freelance Writer and Tarot Reader

“The 100 Hour Meditation Teacher Training with Teacher Eileen is a groundbreaking program that sets the fundamental framework of the practice while demystifying hazy notions of meditation and mindfulness. The program was informative and enriching and would solidify any yoga teacher's teaching toolkit while also allowing meditation novices to discover the approach right for them and learn ways to recognize and end mental suffering. This program was no walk in the park and rightfully so. Yet Teacher Eileen effectively guided us through the process with much wisdom from the heart and with the brilliance of her expansive and multi-pronged intellect!”

- Rina Nakayama; Yoga Teacher
