This is an excellent opportunity to study with two certified Ashtanga yoga teachers in a beautiful environment. The workshop is limited to 18 students. All the delicious meals are prepared by our vegetarian chefs. Everything is taken care of so you can concentrate on learning. There will be time for the beach and exploring the beauty of Costa Rica. Zoe Slatoff will be joining us to teach Sanskrit and Philosophy.
The initial focus will be to give you
inspiration for your practice at a much deeper level and create
an environment that is conducive to learning.
First, we will do a self-evaluation, clearly indicating where
each student stands as to create the next possible step in a conscious evolution.
Asanas -Exploring the fundamental principles of each asana of
the ashtanga series.
Breath & Vinyasa- Learning the breathing mechanism and its
effect on the physical body, emotional body and the mental
body.
Sanskrit with Zoë Slatoff
In this course we will contemplate the yoga tradition
from Vedic times to the present.
Each day will consist of chanting, discussion and Sanskrit study.
We will:
- explore yogic texts,
such as the Bhagavad Gītā, Haṭha Pradīpikā and other lesser known texts
- look particularly at the Yoga Sūtra,
chanting and discussing its meaning and relevance to our practice today
- Training by two certified teachers
- Three vegetarian meals a day.

Aspiring to become a yoga teacher?
This retreat is a rare opportunity to study in a very small group
setting with 2 certified teachers who have practiced Ashtanga Yoga
for 40 years. and with an a scholarly Sanskrit teacher.
Darby & Joanne began their studies with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in 1979
spending four of the next 5 years in his shala in Mysore, India.
They returned to India many times to further their studies until
guruji’s death in 2009.
Zoë has a Master's Degree in South Asian Studies from Columbia University.
She is the author of “Yogāvatāraṇam: The Translation of Yoga”,
a Sanskrit textbook for yoga students, which integrates
traditional and academic methods of learning, teaching grammar
and reading through classical yoga texts.
She is now at work on a PhD. She also teaches online Sanskrit courses for
the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies.
This training will take place in the Peninsula de Nicoya, a very
special and unspoiled area of Costa Rica surrounded by
beautiful landscape and isolated beaches.
The workshop is organized to allow you to concentrate on your
practice and your daily study in a very peaceful and relaxing
setting.
