I had a truly incredible experience in Guatemala - and I have Pablo and the Etnica team to thank for it! Pablo worked closely with me to design a custom trip for my friend and me, taking into consideration our logistical preferences, interests, time window, and budget. Antigua and jungle trekking (Nicolas Menard)

I had the most amazing week traveling with secret paradise! 

Ruth is amazing! She answers emails within hours, is flexible and arranges happily everything you ask for and is always Kund and patient. 

I booked a North Ari Islands tour and visited three islands - Rasdhoo, Ukulhas and Mathieveri. Even though the islands were close to each other, they were so different, it was great that I could experience all of them! It was so nice to change the island, without having to travel too far. I loved that at the beginning and at the end I was booked on a speed boat, but in the middle it was the local ferry. The timings were also perfect for me every time. 

The guesthouses were also great - I liked the most the Fins Dive and the Royal Reef: the rooms were impeccably clean, very beautiful and spacious, the guys, who work there took so great care of everything, so helpful, kind but not intruding. I loved these two places totally!!! 

I went diving every day, even when changing islands, and enjoyed an amazing experience every time! But also had time at the afternoon to explore the islands and to enjoy the most beautiful beaches I have seen in my life. 

The city tour of Male was amazing, I am glad I didn't stayed in the room to rest instead. I liked how involved Mash was and with what excitement he showed and explained so many interesting things.

7N NORTH ARI ISLAND HOPPING

One of the best trips we’ve ever taken.  We did all of the things that were on my “must do” list.  We stayed in a great variety of accommodations and saw so many parts of the country.

Southwest Costa Rica Culture and Nature Adventure (Janna Zinzi)

This was an absolutely fantastic trip! They were flexible in planning activities that were perfect for our interests, travel dates, and fitness level. Each day was full of wonderful experiences, with a mix of cultural learning and stunning natural beauty. Volcano and Jungle Trekking (Kimberly Rumley-Wells)

What an amazing experience!!!! From our amazing guide (David), to his lovely and welcoming family, to the wonderful hospitality we received, to the adorable cabin we stayed in, to the delicious meals, to the awesome activities we took part in (learning to milk cows and create cheese from the milk, partaking in the production of sugar from sugar cane, learning to create jam from berries, and so much more!)  Everything from start to finish was executed perfectly, and we always felt as though we were in the best of hands.  Providencia de Dota is such a beautiful community, and we really hope to get the chance to return one day.  Highly, highly recommend visiting, interacting with the really friendly locals, and engaging in such enriching experiences!

Rural community 3 days & 2 Nights (Inbal Gurari)

This was a quick overnight trip from Antigua to Lake Atitlan to enjoy the lake and the Mayan villages that surround the lake with a side visit to. Iximche on the way back to Antigua.  Sofia, who arranged the tour had the foresight to reschedule from a Mon/Tues trip to Wed/Thurs because of a nationwide farmer’s cooperative that would have resulted in massive traffic problems instead of sight seeing and cultural fun.
We were met promptly by our driver Rudy (!) who was very friendly and an excellent careful driver.  He talked about things we saw on the way and he seemed genuinely concerned that we were enjoying the car trip.  We were then delivered to our guide David to explore Lake Atitlan and villages by lake and car.  We interacted with people, painters, weavers, discussed the architecture and preservation of Mayan economics, language and culture.
David also knew nature too, birds and lake ecology.
We visited villages that weave, have markets, make pottery and are all around beautiful.  Sofia, Rudy and David were able to deliver what we were seeking in a meaningful way.  
On the return, we made a side detour to Iximche and had lunch at Xe Jun.  Iximche is a late Mayan ruin in a gorgeous natural site.  We had lunch with Alex our guide who is creating an eco restaurant focusing on natural materials, foods, traditions and conservation.  He did not disappoint.  The food was fantastic!  We were served traditional, nicely spiced stew, salsa, avocado, beans etc.  Alex, then served as our guide to the archaeological site and was happy to share his vast knowledge and love of the site with us.  This site is very interesting and somewhat different than other Mayan sites both geolographically and architecturally.  
I would happily use Sofia on additional trip to other areas in Guatemala in the future.   Thank you very much to Rudy, David, Alex and Sofia.

Nature & Beach Costa Rica Adventure - Carruth Family - April 2022

Be warned, Lokal will ruin you for any other kind of travel. I simply cannot imagine any better way to explore remote and sensitive areas of the world like the rain-forests of Costa Rica. Under the watchful eye of our leader/guide/coordinator Marco Rios Bollinger we were taken to places we never could have discovered on our own - simple but exquisite eco-lodges situated in 100s of acres of unspoiled forest, locally owned and run by delightful people. We ate superbly at small places where local people cooked locally grown and sourced food. We were provided with local guides who possessed the very broadest and deepest knowledge of their areas. Being in a small, carefully curated group meant that each of us was able to have a one-on-one experience with the places and people we encountered - it never felt like one was looking over someone else's shoulder. The trip was brilliantly thought-out and organized but Marco never made us feel like we were being herded from place to place. He has a superb ability to guide from behind, allowing each of us to feel we were taking the lead in our own adventure. He also built in many segments where we could make our own choices for activities. Lokal provided us with the very best of both worlds - an organized group tour with a large component of individual adventure.   

HATCH Adventure: Costa Rica

Marco´s attention to the group and not only our wellbeing, but enjoyment, dessert, lost cellphones, flight changes...he is a true chaperone of the local experience... because we all knew the Osa was beautiful, Costa Rica has great people, but especially the heartfull people that Marco was able to gather was no doubt what nurtured my journey the most. thank you, thank you... truly hope to hop on more journeys with you.

We enjoyed the overview of much of Costa Rica from the museums in San Jose to hiking in the jungles and forest to view waterfalls, volcanoes, mammals, reptiles, birds, insects, trees, plants and more.  Our guide, Jose Pablo, was relentless in his efforts to make our experience insightful and memorable as well as fun for all.  Thank you.

Volcano & Jungle Trekking (Leland Kerr)

David planned the perfect trip to Cusco for us! From trekking through the jungles exploring the Cacao plantation to riding the train to the magnificent city of Machu Picchu, our guides brought us amazing insight and unforgettable memories. All of our meals and accommodations were fantastic and I can't recommend this tour enough. For those that want to pack in a lot into a short amount of time, this is the way to go. Sacred Valley, Cacao/Coffee Farm, and Machu Picchu Tour

We planned this trip super last minute and Pablo, Sofia, and the Etnica team did a fantastic job putting together an amazing trip.  They helped us hit all of the major sights we were trying to see during the trip in a super short period of time and addressed the few hiccups we had with care and professionalism.  The sights in Antigua, Acatenango, Flores, Tikal, and Semuc Champey were amazing!  We would love to come back to Guatemala and would absolutely use Etnica again if we did.

Jungle and Volcano Trekking (Alex Curti)

Pablo and Sofia from Etnica Travel made  this trip so amazing and memorable. Their attention before and throughout the trip made the difference. We had a great time. Wonderful people in all places we visit, very good food and comfortable accommodation. The tours were exactly what we wanted and interaction with local tour guide and community made the difference. From the Highlands to the Mayan Underworld (Keyla & Marisa)

I've traveled a lot independently, but this was my first time using a travel organizer.  What a delight it was, and well worth the money.  

For starters, Lokal (Sumak) vetted all the guides, drivers, lodges etc. for safety, quality, and sustainability.  I care a lot about having a positive (or at least not negative) impact on the places I visit in terms of ecology, culture, and economy.  It takes a lot of research to do that while planning a trip, and you're never really sure what's what until you arrive (if ever).  Lokal took care of ALL that better than I could have, and with zero effort from me.

My agent, Felipe, gave me a ton of options based on where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do and how much I could spend.  He answered a ton of little questions and made suggestions about planning that saved me travel time, money, and made my activities more fun.  For instance, I wanted to see bioluminescent plankton on a kayak ride.  He suggested I reschedule bc my original date would coincide with a full moon which would compromise visibility.

I could always reach him with questions through WhatsApp, even little things like how much to tip a guide vs a driver, and he'd proactively message me with relevant details that came up, like when there was rain in San Jose, he suggested I contact the staff in advance to find out if there'd be a delay in my flight there (he was right, and I wouldn't have gotten that info as fast if I hadn't asked the staff!)

I would 100% use Lokal again, and highly recommend Felipe.  This trip turned out to be a peak life experience for me and my son, and having this service really allowed me to not sweat the details and just enjoy it from start to finish.

Osa Peninsula Adventure - Kate Lacour & Son - July 2021

When I first found out that my trip to the Uakari Floating Lodge was cancelled, I was really disappointed and also stressed because I had flights that couldn't be rebooked.  Then Nathalia Segato came along and God used her to make my dreams come true!  She asked good questions and really listened, to understand what I was hoping for most in my trip, and she helped rearrange an even better replacement with my stay and adventures at the Amazon Green Tours and Lodge!  I can't thank her enough!  She just handled everything, along with her co-worker Poly!  Amazon Green Tours was truly amazing--the long list of wildlife I was able to see, not to mention the authentic Amazon experience, with food grown in the Amazon, and a couple of nights of actual camping in the jungle, with suspension structures for our hammocks (one closer to the ground and one another night with a huge ladder into the trees and a platform) and even a table and eating utensils/serving ware all constructed on site by my guide Elso, using just his machete and only branches and vines from the jungle--IT WAS INCREDIBLE!!  I loved all of the exploring and searches for wildlife by canoe and also on foot and the setting was unforgettably beautiful!!  Elso and his wife Paula who own and run the Amazon Green Tours, also became like family to me, so again, I'm so grateful to Nath for helping me find them and line up the tour of a lifetime!    

Nath and Poly also helped me arrange all of my transfers/taxi's between airports/hotels/tours which was HUGE and an enormous relief because I was nervous and dangers, traveling alone!  Each taxi driver was exceptional and I felt very safe and they really took good care of me!  I had pre-booked separately an extension of my trip to Iguazu Falls, while in Brazil and Nath/Poly helped line up transfers for me there and also set up the Macuco  Safari Boat Tour that was such a blast and went right up next to the falls and even under part of it!  

Thanks again so much for helping make my dreams come true on my trip to Brazil that I will never forget!  I will certainly contact lokal/we travel in the future when I need help planning other adventures!  Your staff is amazing!!  :)  :)  

Amazon Jungle Adventure

I cannot say enough good things about this trip! Felipe was the most attentive tour guide that I have ever worked with. We did a self-guided tour so he was not physically with us, but he checked in on us daily, proactively messaged us with details for the next day, and even responded within 60 seconds after I messaged him saying we got lost :) !  He helped us find our way within minutes. We were passionate about focusing on sustainable travel and Felipe did a wonderful job keeping to that theme. We also gave him a tall task as we wanted to fit in many activities during our short stay. He delivered and executed all of our asks! It also does not hurt that Costa Rica is just so beautiful! The trip was well worth the money!

Nature Lovers Costa Rica Adventure - V. Whitten & Friends - May 2021

Our trip to Costa Rica was incredible. Our trip planner Felipe was above superb. This was the first time working with a travel agency and the experience set the bar high.  His guidance, knowledge, communication and patience with me with wonderful. Our original trip was planned for March 2020 but due to the pandemic, we moved the trip to Dec 2020. Felipe supported every step of the process, provided a number of amazing experiences and was available at all times during the trip. All the guides, transfers, hosts were so welcoming and so kind. Our trip was organized by Maro Experiences in Costa Rica working in conjunction with Lokal.  We had a complex itinerary with multiple  transportation serves, hotels, and guides.
