Day 4: Kibo Safari Camp, Amboseli National Park     

Located in the southern reaches of Kenya, the Amboseli National Park is renowned for its excellent variety of wildlife such as the Masaai giraffe, elephant, lion, and cheetah, and not surprisingly it is one of Kenya's most popular parks. The landscape of Amboseli is dominated by the majestic snowcap of Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as open plains, acacia woodland, swamps, and the massif of Ol Doinyo Orok. The birding is excellent, especially closer to the lakes and swamps. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to large herds of elephants among other wildlife species. Other attractions of the park include opportunities to meet the Maasai people and soak up spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world.  

Day Itinerary  

This morning we depart by road through the scenic Athi Plains and into the bush country of Amboseli National Park, home to the legendary Maasai tribesmen and famous for huge herds of elephants. Check-in at the lodge/ camp, relax and prepare for lunch. After lunch, an afternoon game run is also planned. In addition to elephant, antelope, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, and the rare black rhino, nearly every vista within the park is framed by majestic Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance

Day 5:  Kibo Safari Camp, Amboseli National Park      

Day Itinerary  

Amboseli lies immediately North West of Mt. Kilimanjaro, on the border with Tanzania. Amboseli National Park, the second most popular animal park after Maasai Mara, is 260km (160 miles) from Nairobi, on the border with the neighboring country of Tanzania. Large concentrations of wildlife occur here in the dry season, making Amboseli a popular tourist destination. Amboseli is famous for its big game and its great scenic beauty.

Its magnificent situation at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro combined with its excellent opportunities to view Kenya's animals makes it one of the most-visited safari parks in Kenya. Amboseli National Park is known for its large herd of over 900 free-ranging elephants. This is the best national park to visit to see these wonderful and huge creatures.  

Large concentrations of wildlife occur here in the dry season, making Amboseli a popular tourist destination. Amboseli is famous for its big game and its great scenic beauty.  After breakfast, depart for a rewarding full game drive till evening. With picnic lunch

Ol Pejeta Conservancy  

Resting at the foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountain Range, in central Kenya's Laikipia County, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. It is also home to some of the last remaining northern white rhinos in the world. Originally a working cattle ranch in colonial Kenya and now a pioneering wildlife conservancy, Ol Pejeta works to protect wildlife and provide a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees. The Conservancy is a popular safari destination and is home to the renowned ‘Big Five’ as well as a wide selection of other African animals including zebra, giraffe, hippo, cheetah, jackal, serval, hyena, vervet monkey, and many more. Visitors can look forward to an assortment of outdoor activities such as horse rides, game walks, and nocturnal game drives.   

Day Itinerary  

Early breakfast at the Lodge/Camp, check out, and depart to the Ol-Pejeta Conservancy. Arrive at your lodge. Check-in followed by lunch. In the afternoon enjoy an exciting game drive in the conservancy.  

Today, Ol Pejeta is the largest black rhino sanctuary in east Africa, and home to two of the world’s last remaining northern white rhinos. It is the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees, in a Sanctuary established to rehabilitate animals rescued from the black market. It has some of the highest predator densities in Kenya and still manages a very successful livestock program Ol Pejeta also seeks to support the people living around its borders, to ensure wildlife conservation translates to better education, healthcare, and infrastructure for the next generation of wildlife guardians.

Nakuru is a fascinating city on the shores of western Kenya’s Lake Nakuru. The capital of Nakuru County is located in the Great Rift Valley, about ten kilometers from the massive Menengai Crater. A hiking trail leads up to the rim of this ancient caldera, offering bird’s eye views over the lake and surrounds, and then plunges 400 meters down to the floor below, where visitors can walk among ancient forests. Lake Nakuru National Park, surrounding Nakuru, is home to exceptional birdlife, as well as over 50 varieties of mammals including lion, leopard, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, rhino, antelope, and various primates. History and culture enthusiasts should make sure to visit the incredible Hyrax Hill prehistoric site.  

Day Itinerary  

After breakfast, leave the Mount Kenya area and travel by way of Nyahururu Falls to Lake Nakuru National Park and arrive at your Lodge/ Camp for lunch.  

The Park is famous for over 360 species of birds and is a sanctuary for the rare white rhino. Millions of pink flamingos ring the lake shore, and there is an excellent population of buffalo and waterbuck. This Park is also a sanctuary for  

Rothschild’s giraffe, eland, lion, and leopard. Enjoy dinner and overnight at the lodge. B/L/D  

Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge is nestled along the Lion Hill overlooking the spectacular flamingo pink-rimmed Lake Nakuru. Its location affords panoramic views of the lake and the picturesque Lake Nakuru National Park. A short two-hour drive from Nairobi, Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge is a favorite with residents and visitors to Kenya.  

Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge is cleverly laid out in such a way that most rooms and sitting areas afford stunning views of the lake and the park. The Lodge incorporates natural landscaping with tall acacia trees, winding walkways and greens dotted with bird feeds. Lake Nakuru National Park was created in 1968 to protect the huge flocks of over of the lesser flamingo that breed and nest at the edge of Lake Nakuru, giving it the characteristic pink rim. Lake Nakuru National Park, located at an altitude of 4,000-5,767 feet above sea level, covers 188 square kilometers of the land of great ecological diversity - from lake water, woodland, and bush grassland, to rocky ridges. The park is home to not just the lesser flamingo but over 400 species of birds and is one of the few places to see the endangered white rhino. Other wildlife at the park includes lions, leopards, zebra, gazelles, eland, giraffes, and the hyrax.

Day 8:  Governors Main Camp, Maasai Mara      

The Maasai Mara together with Tanzania’s Serengeti form Africa’s most famous wildlife park, the Maasai Mara  

National Reserve. The image of acacia trees dotting endless grass plains epitomizes Africa for many, then add a Maasai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation need to go no further. The undeniable highlight of the Masai Mara National Reserve is undoubtedly the annual wildebeest migration traversing the vast plains of the Serengeti and the Masai Mara. It is known as the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet – with more than a million animals following the rains. A large pride of lions, herds of elephants, as well as giraffes, gazelles, and eland, can also be spotted in the reserve. Aside from horse riding safaris and traditional vehicle safaris, hot-air ballooning over the Mara plains has become almost essential.  

Day Itinerary  

After breakfast drive to the Naivasha Airstrip for your flight to the Masai Mara Game Reserve, arriving at the Lodge/ Camp in time for a late lunch.  

After lunch, enjoy a PM game drive within the park. The Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that it is difficult to believe; over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. You might see lions, Rhinos, Hippos, Crocodiles, giraffes, Wildebeests, Zebras, Buffalo, Warthogs, Hyenas, jackals, Wild dogs, Buffalo, leopards, and a variety of antelopes. It is in the Mara that the most spectacular event of the natural wonders of the world takes place. Behind their heels are predators of the savannah. This evening, enjoy a sumptuous dinner at your camp.

Day 9: Governors Main Camp, Masai Mara   

Day Itinerary  

These days are filled with activities as you enjoy morning and afternoon game drives with your experienced and professional guides. The great expanse of Africa stretches away across the beautiful plains of the Masai Mara – one of the most life-filled wildlife sanctuaries on earth. And here the wildlife is varied and plentiful as you observe herds of gazelles, impala, and wildebeest as well as a variety of other antelope species such as topi and hartebeest. A large pride of lions may be seen as well as cheetahs on the open plains and leopards in the shady riverine areas. Elephants and buffalo are numerous and you will return to camp each day exhilarated by the wealth of wildlife that you have observed. Here also the birdlife is spectacular and you may identify weavers, rollers, egrets, herons, hornbills, storks, and a variety of raptors. Return to your splendid camp for meals and for each overnight. B/L/D

Rwanda’s capital and biggest city stretch across lush undulating hills surrounded by towering mountains, the largest of which is Mount Kigali, rising 1850 meters above sea level. Kigali is the country’s financial, commercial and cultural hub, served by an international airport and featuring a wide range of accommodation options. It also offers a collection of restaurants and points of interest, including the Kigali Genocide Centre, an atmospheric market, and numerous craft shops. With its interesting architecture, busy streets, meandering boulevards, and green hillsides, Kigali is said to be one of the most attractive cities in Africa and is definitely worth a visit.

Breakfast will be served at your lodge. You will later check out of your hotel and transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Nairobi. On arrival, our driver will then pick you up and drop you off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight to Rwanda.

Day 11: Virunga Lodge, Volcanoes National Park

Bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo in Rwanda, and set high on the jungle-covered slopes of the volcanic Virunga Mountains, the Volcanoes National Park is best known as a sanctuary for the region’s rare mountain gorillas. Visitors flock here to experience face-to-face encounters with these intriguing creatures. Regulated treks through the reserve allow visitors to spend an hour at a time with these incredible primates in their natural habitat. While the gorillas are without a doubt the main draw card, visitors can also look forward to exploring a network of scenic hiking trails, with the beautiful day hike to the Crater Lake on Mount Bisoke being a particular highlight. Make sure to visit the fascinating Karisoke Research Centre and the tomb of the world-famous Dian Fossey.

The Mountain Gorilla View Lodge is perfectly situated for gorilla tracking in Rwanda. The 30 individual cottages have been built on 4 acres of land on the slopes of Mt Sabinyo. The stone and thatch cottages each have en-suite facilities, a small lounge with a fireplace and a private veranda. The cottages are of a good size and are well positioned to give them privacy from each other. Being at altitude, it can get cold therefore each cottage has a fireplace in the room.

Located very close (about 15 minutes) from the main headquarters of Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park (Parc National de Volcans), this is a very handy base from which to explore the area and organize treks to see the Golden monkeys and, of course, the mountain gorillas. This is a great location with superb views of the volcanoes.

Kigali Genocide Memorial & Museum

Located just outside of Kigali City Centre in the Gasabo district, Kigali Genocide Memorial & Museum was created by a joint partnership of the Kigali City Council and the UK-based Aegis Trust. The centre is extremely moving, challenging, educational and ultimately inspiring as well as a great place to understand the cause, tragedy and successful rebuilding post-genocide.

The memorial hosts a tour which is transparent and educational but very sombre and humbling when guests realize that over 250,000 deceased are buried on the site of the memorial.

Gorilla Trekking Volcanoes National Park

Gorilla Trekking in the Volcanoes National Park offers visitors the unique opportunity of discovering the 10 families of gorillas that live within the national park. Visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee before the trek starts and will be separated into groups of 8 depending on their physical abilities. Each group is guided by a guide and two scouts who are well-trained in emergency situations. The amount of time set aside per trek is different depending on where the gorilla family is situated. Some trips may take as little as half an hour and some take the better part of the day.

Located in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda, RDB Golden Monkey Tracking offers visitors a unique experience of catching a glimpse of the endangered Golden Monkey. These striking primates with their bright orange fur contrasting the green rainforests of the Virunga Mountains are a photographer's dream. The Golden Monkey can be found in very few places outside of Volcanoes National Park, and their vibrant colors, energetic demeanor, and sizeable troupes of up to 30 individuals are indeed a sight to behold.
