A 7-day, 6-night small group journey designed for travelers who want more than just a glimpse of the aurora. It's about immersion — combining boutique accommodation, authentic experiences, and the raw beauty of Iceland across a full week.

Touch down at Keflavík International Airport and your guide meets you on arrival for the transfer north into Reykjavík. Check in to Hotel Frón, set in the heart of Laugavegur — the city's famous main street, lined with restaurants, shops and some of the best people-watching in the north Atlantic.

After time to settle in and freshen up, your guide takes you on a tour of the city's highlights — the iconic Hallgrímskirkja church rising above the rooftops, the old harbour with its colourful fishing boats, and the colour-washed streets of the old town. A welcome dinner together as a group rounds off the evening. Get an early night — tomorrow the real adventure begins.

After breakfast, the journey begins in earnest. Head east through Iceland's famous Golden Circle — watch Strokkur erupt at the Geysir geothermal area, sending boiling water skyward every few minutes, before continuing to the thundering Gullfoss waterfall where glacial water crashes 32 metres into a dramatic canyon.

From there the road pushes north and west through increasingly remote and beautiful landscape, arriving in Stykkishólmur on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula — a charming harbour town set against the backdrop of one of Iceland's most dramatic coastlines. The evening opens up for your first real aurora opportunity of the trip, with minimal light pollution and vast open skies above.

We always keep flexibility in mind — if the forecast pulls us in a different direction, we move with it. Getting you under clear skies is the priority.

After breakfast, the road heads north into one of Iceland's most dramatic and least-visited regions — the Troll Peninsula, or Trollaskagi. A rugged landscape of steep mountains, deep fjords and almost no traffic.

The first stop is Grettislaug — a natural hot spring used for centuries, perched above the sea with sweeping views across the fjord. With very few visitors, this is Iceland as it should be experienced: wild, quiet and entirely yours.

Continue along the peninsula before checking in to your base for the next three nights — Hotel Hjalteyri, a beautifully converted herring factory sitting right on the banks of Eyjafjörður. A three-course Icelandic dinner at Eyri Restaurant — run by Nik, your guide for the week, so you are in very good hands from the moment you sit down. As darkness falls, head out on a guided northern lights search — or if the aurora appears, settle into the hot tubs at Hauganes or Hjalteyri and watch the sky from the water.

One of Iceland's most extraordinary days. Begin at Goðafoss — the Waterfall of the Gods — a sweeping horseshoe of glacial water that marked Iceland's conversion to Christianity in the year 1000, set just 45 minutes east of Akureyri.

From there, the road continues into the volcanic Mývatn region — one of the most geologically alive places on earth. Explore Dimmuborgir's otherworldly lava formations, stand at the steaming craters of Krafla volcano, and walk the Hverir geothermal field where the ground hisses, bubbles and steams underfoot. Take the opportunity to relax in the famous Mývatn Nature Baths — Iceland's lesser-known but equally magical alternative to the Blue Lagoon — with mineral-rich geothermal waters set against dramatic volcanic scenery (~$55, not included).

The day closes with a stop in Akureyri — the northern capital — for a walking tour of the town centre, with free time for shopping and coffee. Dinner at a local restaurant before returning to the hotel.

The morning begins at the historic Herring Factory in Hjalteyri — once the beating heart of Iceland's fishing industry, now repurposed as an art gallery housing working artists whose studios you'll get to visit. A traditional Icelandic food tasting with a local storyteller brings the history of the building to life before you head to the water.

From there, board a whale watching excursion on Eyjafjörður — humpbacks and minkes are regularly spotted in these rich fjord waters. The boat drops you directly on Hrísey, Iceland's second-largest island — a tiny, windswept community where ptarmigan roam the streets and the pace of life feels centuries removed from the mainland. Time to explore on foot with a hike around the island before meeting at the natural pool at 4pm for a swim and a soak in the hot tub.

Dinner is at a special local spot — a traditional fish buffet using the finest the fjord has to offer. As night falls, Hrísey comes into its own for aurora hunting: near-total darkness, open skies and some of the best Northern Lights conditions of the entire trip. Take the last ferry back to the mainland and return to Hotel Hjalteyri.

An early departure from Hotel Hjalteyri to make the most of the day. The drive south returns you to Reykjavík by early afternoon — the day is entirely your own. Pick up a last gift from the old harbour market, visit the National Museum, book an additional tour, or simply find a warm café and reflect on the week. Tonight is yours. Tomorrow the airport transfer departs early.
