Course Description:  Eight Limbs of Yoga

In this blessed course, we explore the Eight Limbs of Yoga by Patanjali which is considered the “Father of Yoga”. Eight Limbs of Yoga is also known as Ashtanga, which means "Eight Limbs" often visualized like a tree. These eight steps act as guidelines on how to live a meaningful and purposeful life. They serve as a way for moral and ethical conduct and self-discipline to help you understand your inner and outer worlds.

The Eight Limbs direct your attention inward toward one's health to help you to acknowledge the spiritual aspects of your nature with love and light. Yoga means union, to unite, and union with the light of the supreme being.

The Eight Limbs of Yoga is a classical philosophy that offers a deeper foundation for all yoga practices including additional and different paths to achieve the unity of your union. The same foundation of Pranayama, Relaxation, Asanas, Lifestyle and Meditation (PRALM) applies through this scaffolded curriculum. The Eight Limbs of Yoga is experienced through these eight stages:

      1. यम | Yamas | Outer Attitudes
      2. नियम | Niyamas | Inner Attitudes
      3. आसन | Asanas | Postures
      4. प्राणायाम | Pranayama | Breathing
      5. प्रत्याहार | Pratyahara | Withdrawal
      6. धारणा  | Dharana | Concentration
      7. ध्यान  | Dhyana | Meditation
      8. समाधि | Samadhi | Enlightenment

I never knew there was variety type of breathing techniques to help us not only to get ourselves to be connected as whole but for our well being. This course was so worth of your time and on top of it is having in ASL environment with amazing teacher, Rajarajeshwari. She taught every aspect about Pranayama breathing technique not just what but where, why, when, who and how. She would walk every step with us on every techniques and her calming presence really shows. It is so NICE to have a deaf yoga instructor using our native language, American Sign Language. Both sessions I left feeling very inspired and relaxed. I have utilized the techniques since then and it makes a difference on my well being.

Dearest Rajarajeshawari, I'm sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I had to leave the class as my mother needed my assistance. As a result, I still need to review the class material. However, I plan on doing so tomorrow. I thoroughly enjoyed the first class with you and appreciate your vast knowledge and expertise in Sanskrit language and Yoga. Yours truly, Elzbieta
