      About this trip

Be immersed in Cusco’s colorful culture and kaleidoscopic natural wonders on our Women’s Adventure Machu Picchu Inca Trail plus optional 3-day Lares Trek. More than traditional tours, participants will have authentic encounters with local people, hiking one-day Inca trail, and Rainbow Mountain, and the opportunity to extend their stay for a wilderness trekking adventure in the Andes.

In Cusco, your taste buds will dance to the delightful ingredients of Peruvian foods. Meet a Shaman from the Quechua people will who guide us in a Pachamana Ceremony, one of Peru’s most ancient rituals. For those who are interested, the Shaman will offer coca leaf readings to give each person insight on your personal goals, challenges, and strengths.

Beyond Cusco, participants will experience high altitude 2-mile hike (over 16,000ft) at the Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain and photograph the fascinating straited geology.

In the Sacred Valley, participants will learn about ancient agriculture that is being used in modern day. You will tour archeological sites and explore textile markets.

Finally, the main event, to see Machu Picchu in all its glory! First, a hike over 8 miles of the original Inca steps on the last leg of the Inca Trail. Along the way, participants will learn about plants, history, and see other archeological sites. Just before sunset, we will pass through the Sun Gate and down in the valley below will be the Lost City of the Incas. Further down the trail, we enter the complex to capture the iconic photos of stunning Machu Picchu that you’ve seen in magazines like National Geographic.

Ladies who love to hike, and want to partake in a wilderness trek that is much quieter than the Inca Trail, we are offering an add on to this already action-packed adventure. The Lares Trek is an expedition-style journey into the alpine trails of the Andes. You will see old stone houses, herds of alpacas, snow-capped mountains, and blue alpine lakes. More details about this trek can be found below the 8-day itinerary at the bottom of this page.

The Women’s Adventure Machu Picchu Inca Trail plus optional 3-day Lares Trek is open to all women and is in partnership with International Becoming an Outdoors Woman. No previous experience required. Join us as a solo traveler, with a partner, or with a friend. There are no forced single supplements. I signed up for the Greenland trip, paying little attention to anything other than the dates and packing list. Turns out, that’s the perfect way to approach Greenland - with the right gear preparation, an open mind and no specific expectations. Then, this mysterious country slowly unfolds in front of you with surprises (good and less good) around every corner. Tara and our experienced Icelandic guides planned a varied itinerary, aiming to expose us to the sights, sounds and all forms of ice East Greenland has to offer. But, curve balls abounded (mostly weather-related) — each one handled deftly and with humor, while keeping our group engaged and busy. This adventure requires flexibility, willingness to sometimes make do without creature comforts and a bit more physical stamina than some of Tara’s other trips. But boy is it worth it! We laughed, we cried, we oohed and aahed, and like most Green Edventures trips, we did it all with a group of badass women. Thank you for making this incredibly special experience happen!

This trip was absolutely amazing for anyone who is a fan of nature. You get to spend tons of time either on or in the ocean, with many snorkels, scuba dives, and whale watching trips. You also spend several nights camping on a beautiful beach sleeping under a bed of stars. The exploration of La Plaz is also fantastic, with plenty of time to enjoy the city and it's history. I would recommend this trip to anyone who loves the outdoors, and I will definitely try and go back at some point.

This was a great trip, especially for first-timers to Alaska. We enjoyed many of the highlights Alaska has to offer. Our local guide worked tirelessly to provide a good experience for all. Meals were healthy, tasty and clean. Accommodations were comfortable. The dynamics were positive and cooperative. All participants were of appropriate fitness levels for the activities. Our group leader set and maintained a positive and fun-loving atmosphere. Thank you, Green Edventures!

I am 85 years old and checked with my doctor before planning this trip. He told me it would be the trip of a lifetime and that I should go. He was right, it was the trip of a lifetime. Traveled with a great group, met three African tribes, and saw a great many animals. The accommodations were great, and the food was good. So happy that I had this opportunity.

This was an amazing, bucket-list, trip-of-a-lifetime type of trip! The local guide is the absolute best and makes sure you experience the best that Uganda has to offer. The wildlife viewing and the cultural experiences are second to none. You will be planning your return trip before you even finish this one! As always, the trip leader and the rest of the GreenEdventures crew also do a great job and make sure every detail has been planned and taken care of. I can’t recommend this trip or GE enough.

I went on an amazing trip with Tara to Baja, Mexico in 2020. This was a dream trip for me being a wildlife lover. It was incredible to be able to swim with whale sharks and sea lions and get up close with gray whales. Camping on the beach was amazing. We had a great group of women and everyone vibed well and all of the tour guides including Tara, Alex and Chabello were so fun, friendly and helpful every step of the way. The food was great at the campsite and at the restaurants we got to try. When our trip plans initially got derailed waiting on a negative Covid test and we had to get a different flight, Tara did everything in her power to accommodate us and make sure we got to enjoy every part of the trip, including setting us up with another whale shark swimming tour after we had missed the initial one with the group, and she spent time waiting for us to finish before leaving for the airport. I definitely recommend Green Edventures, especially the Baja Mexico trip!

I just returned from the Wisconsin Women's Tour and couldn't have asked for a better trip! For me, the amount and type of activity were perfect. Who know there was so much to discover practically in my own backyard?
