      About this trip

If you love cool coastal environments, you will love our Vancouver Island Kayaking Orca Waters Women’s Adventure and wildlife tour. Experience wilderness in comfort at a remote island base camp across from the Robson Bight Ecology Reserve in the heart of whale waters, and venture into the Great Bear Rainforest.

The Vancouver Island Kayaking Orca Waters Women’s Adventure begins at the municipal airport in Vancouver, BC. As a group, we fly to beautiful Vancouver Island to the town of Port Hardy. From here we drive 2 hours north to Port Mc Neil our base for the next two night. The following day we embark on an exciting full day boat ride into Knight Inlet in search of Grizzlie Bears. Journeying into the Great Bear Rainforest with Indigenous guides, we spend our time searching for grizzly bears. Granted unrivalled access to villages where our owners and guides are honoured members of the community, we share the cultural significance and stories behind the scenery as we travel towards our bear viewing areas, enjoying Vancouver Island’s whale watching opportunities as we navigate waters favored by migrating orcas.

On day three of Vancouver Island Kayaking Orca Waters Women’s Adventure we take a water taxi across Johnstone Strait for three amazing nights at our private wilderness whale watching and kayaking basecamp. Experience two full days of guided kayaking by local naturalists along the beautiful and wild shores of the temperate rainforest. Learn about the wildlife, keep your eyes peeled for whales with special emphasis on Southern Resident Orcas who hunt salmon in the rich emerald, green sea. The kelp forests are home to many colorful invertebrates that can be seen in the intertidal zone and through the clear shallow water. Mega fauna is abundant and you could see bears, eagles, and dolphins, but banana slugs are guaranteed.

Camp amenities include wood-framed canvas tents on platforms, each with two twin beds on frames with mattresses. The camp has a dining areas with small library, a viewing deck with lounge furniture, and a kitchen where hot breakfast and dinners are made. Lunches are packed, picnic lunches in the field. There is solar power, hot showers, and each person gets her own private composting toilet. The camp will be just our group! Sheets and pillows are provided. Participants need to bring their own sleeping bag or rent one.

Finally, on the 6th day of Vancouver Island Kayaking Orca Waters Women’s Adventure, we head back to Port Mc Neil and transfer to Port Hardy just in time for an evening whale watching tour on a RHIB boat. The guides will take us into places we have not had a chance to explore in search of birds, otters, whales, and adventure! Overnight in Port Hardy.

Day 7, Breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport, and we travel as a group on a flight to Vancouver with plenty of time to catch international flights or to extend your stay in Vancouver BC.

Very excited to have been a part of this wonderful trip. The weather conditions were perfect with 10” of fresh snow for dog sledding and snowshoeing. Our tour guide, Lori, was professional and personable, she ensured that every part of the tour ran smoothly. This was a fabulous experience and I highly recommend this trip.

This was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. Our schedule was full with a well thought out itinerary that still afforded time to do your own things. I would caution that while the Ausengate Trek was not technical, it does require some pre-training to increase lung capacity and muscle strength. I would also advise that the high altitude medication should be a requirement!!! Nothing can prepare you for altitude sickness and it can put a damper on this amazing experience. The hike via the Inca Trail into Machu Picchu was my favorite. It was so spiritual and magical. Thanks Tara Short and Green Edventures for this amazing adventure that I will never EVER forget!!

Rafting 80 miles on the Main Salmon River was my first experience with Green Edventures. They are a top-notch company and I hope to join them for another trip. Everything from registration to the beginning our trip months later was handled very professionally and expediently. Their staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They have been in the adventure travel business long enough to work out the kinks and deliver a smooth and outrageously fun trip.

Iceland is a beautiful country and Green Edventures is a wonderful way to visit and experience many Icelandic adventures. From hiking to waterfalls, riding Icelandic horses, kayaking and beautiful beaches, the group was a terrific mix of like minded women sharing their enthusiasm for exploring the world. Needless to say, I had a great time! Thora, our Icelandic guide, was delightful! Diana Lyster

I went on an amazing trip with Tara to Baja, Mexico in 2020. This was a dream trip for me being a wildlife lover. It was incredible to be able to swim with whale sharks and sea lions and get up close with gray whales. Camping on the beach was amazing. We had a great group of women and everyone vibed well and all of the tour guides including Tara, Alex and Chabello were so fun, friendly and helpful every step of the way. The food was great at the campsite and at the restaurants we got to try. When our trip plans initially got derailed waiting on a negative Covid test and we had to get a different flight, Tara did everything in her power to accommodate us and make sure we got to enjoy every part of the trip, including setting us up with another whale shark swimming tour after we had missed the initial one with the group, and she spent time waiting for us to finish before leaving for the airport. I definitely recommend Green Edventures, especially the Baja Mexico trip!

I just returned from the Wisconsin Women's Tour and couldn't have asked for a better trip! For me, the amount and type of activity were perfect. Who know there was so much to discover practically in my own backyard?
