About this trip

The Low Countries of Holland and Belgium embrace the North Sea which over the centuries has become a vital part of their cultural and even physical fabric. These two small countries in Northern Europe are bursting with cultural and artistic riches, offering a journey through the Old World that is unlike any other part of Europe. The region is home to innumerable quaint towns with gravity-defying houses built on top of labyrinthine canals, golden cities with celebrated museums featuring some of history’s greatest masterpieces, fairy-tale castles, unspoiled farmland cut with waterways and dotted with windmills, and picture-perfect countryside carpeted with millions of flowers, all straight from the pages of a storybook. Fabulously historic, filled with the cutting-edge art, both old and new, the cities of Amsterdam and Bruges are full of unexpected riches: romantic canals, watery landscapes which inspired Vermeer and his contemporaries, imposing architecture and creative cuisine (topped with the world's best chocolate!), and getting to know this part of Europe offers unforgettable rewards of having truly experienced the Old World.

I had a great time in Amsterdam and Belgium with the group. Robin did an excellent job with the group considering she only had a few days to prepare. It was interesting learning about all the different types of architecture, visiting the Van Gough museum and most of all seeing all the tulips. It was unfortunate that we had one person who was always late to meet the group and seem to be very critical.

Holland and Belgium are beautiful countries and we got to see the best of each nation. The canals, medieval architecture, beautiful tulips and fields of flowers, incredible museums, and great food and equally great company made for a terrific experience. Robin had a Herculean task taking over the running of this trip with less than a week's notice. I appreciate everything she did for us. She was competent, supportive, and caring. She has a bright spirit, which was fun. However, there were moments when she appeared stressed. Also, her interaction with the bus drivers was disrupting to their driving, including showing them documents while they were driving, asking them many questions, and tipping them while they were driving. I felt that Robin's manner could have been gentler in certain situations, especially dealing with wait staff, guides, or anyone helping us. Everyone was concerned for Lisa, and we hope that she and her family are ok. Sincerely, Genie Pohl

Was a great trip. Was nice not to have to plan anything. The dinner on the Amsterdam canals was lovely and the tulips were gorgeous. Bruges was my favorite part. Marta was fantastic!

I enjoyed my time in turkey. I truly love my journey there. It is a country with so many histories, cultures, beautiful mosques and incredible landscapes. Turkish people are the friendliness and welcoming. Foods are delicious. Since this is a new tour, I must say the tour was not perfect and there are things that need to be improved to make it more enjoyable in future for other people. The itinerary of the tour need to be proof-read so correct information is provided. In a personal note, I feel that we didn't have enough time in Istanbul and Cappadocia. On the second day in Cappadocia, it was a long day with activities fully packed. Most women, especially the older women, chose to opt-out the dinner and culture show at night. We were down to 7 women including both local and S&S guides. I enjoyed Cappadocia so much that I wish we had one more day there so I could explore the incredible area around the beautiful hotel. I honestly enjoy the most luxury hotel I have ever had there. Personally, I am willing to pay more to stay there one more day. It is just me. There are also so much to explore in Istanbul. The last day back to Istanbul also felt very rush. Half of the women opt-out the farewell dinner because of early flights the next day or other reasons. I had been traveling with S&S in many tours. This is the tour I saw so many women opt-out activities and dinners. Now, I must talk about the local guide. The local guide is a very nice lady. I think she really tried hard to help us to understand Turkey and enjoy our time in Turkey the best way she could. However, pretty much all the women have the same thought i.e. it was very difficult to hear or understand what she said with her accent and voice. On the bus when she talked, she mostly just looked at Lynn instead of us. It made me feel like we were not the audiences. In the historical site Ephesus, we all spread out to do our own touring. Some might use the pre-loaded Rick Steve tour app on our phone for explanation of the site. I did envy other tours with capable guides who gave clear histories of the site. I really like Lynn. She was very nice, very friendly, very patient, very helpful, very responsible, very approachable and very informative during our tour. I appreciate that she put out our daily itinerary and reminders on Whatsapp so we didn't miss out anything. We had many people who had to leave early in the morning of the departure day including myself. I never had any tour director who would try to greet every single woman when they left. She was just so caring and responsible. She really went above and beyond to help us in every possible way she could. The only critic I have for her is that she is not interested in photography and is not much of a photographer. As a result, we couldn't depend on her for beautiful pictures or group pictures but most women didn't seem to mind. At least no one openly complained. I guess in these days, most travelers take a lot of pictures on their own anyway. Some really don't care about group pictures. Luckily, I like taking pictures so I have pictures that can help me to bring back fond memories of my trips.

I recently finished the South Africa, Zimbabwe,, Botswana trip in December, 2024. It was a trip of a lifetime. I have traveled on many international trips with Sights and Soul (as well as several other tour groups so I have a comparison) and they consistently have an itinerary that visits the major points of interest in a region. Days are full, transportation is efficient, local tour guides are well informed and very open to sharing the history and culture of their country with visitors. Kerry was our tour guide , and one reason that I chose this tour was that I had previously traveled with her to Viet Nam. She is calm, gracious and experienced. Two of the ladies experienced acute illness, and she arranged discrete treatment from local physicians. Flights on one leg of the tour were cancelled because of strikes by the ground crew in Johannesburg. Kerry and our South African tour guide got us rescheduled on another airline later in the day so that we would not miss any part of the safari experience, which is the highlight of this trip. She arranged for us to wait in an airport lounge area with free food and drinks. Sights and Soul Travel is a tightly run organization that does everything possible to make their trips run smoothly. Kerry is a credit to this company and is the type of experienced tour guide that can manage the challenges of supervising a group through the joy and excitement, but also the stressful situations that arise with international travel.
