      About this trip

Join Sydney and Rowan Tree Travel for the vintage trip of a lifetime to the Shetland Isles! Together we’ll spend eight of our nine days weaving through this incredibly unique cluster of islands rich with knitting history. We will leave no stone unturned as we wander through the north, south, east, and west of Shetland. From time spent in the museums, to creating your own 1940s fair isle beret, to walks along the scenic cliffs and seaside, there is something for every vintage lover on this tour! Joined by local guides and Shetland knitwear designer Ella Gordon, you will find yourself immersed in Shetland culture from past to present. All three lodgings have been chosen for their distinct history and charm, including a 16th century laird homestead! With delicious local food, visits with sheep, and plenty of yarn, you and your fellow vintage knitting enthusiasts will leave the island a Shetland expert.

      Itinerary

      Day 1: Aberdeen
      Wednesday, August 21

      Welcome to Scotland!

Our adventure begins in Aberdeen, two hours northeast of Edinburgh! We’ll have time this day to get to know one another and do a bit of sightseeing around Aberdeen, the most populated place we’ll be for a while! Let’s roam through a couple local vintage shops and yarn stores and soak in the delights of Scotland. We will have a welcome dinner all together this evening and rest our heads at the beautiful Sandman Signature Hotel in downtown Aberdeen. On the following morning, we are squeezing in a visit to the 16th century Crathes Castle to marvel at the painted ceilings together before it’s time to fly to our main attraction!
