Our fall 2025 Fiber Adventure in Copenhagen & the Faroe Islands is both fiber-ful AND a study in contrasting environments. First, a three day frolic amongst the cosmopolitan buzz of Copenhagen. Then – complete paradigm shift! – we journey to the remote, sparsely populated and windswept Faroe Islands. The juxtaposition of these destinations makes our time at each deeply satisfying. But first… Copenhagen! Denmark’s capital is rich in stately architecture, fine design, delightful shopping and an inspiring goal of complete sustainability. It’s a city in which nearly everyone walks, rides a bike or gets around via public transportation. You’ll notice far more bicycles than cars while stopped at city center intersections! But just when you’ve become comfortable ordering smørrebrød and stegt flæsk, our midday flight from Copenhagen will whisk us to the Faroe Islands in under two hours. This little-known collection of rocky islands is located amidst the North Atlantic Ocean, almost equidistant from Norway, Scotland and Iceland.
Why visit? First, and perhaps most important to our Merry Band of Travelers, the local sheep population is far larger than the human one (approximately 70,000 sheep to just 50,000 humans). We’re intrigued! In fact, the Faroese sheep breed has served here as a source for food, clothing, fuel and companionship since the time of the Vikings. Next, the dramatic landscape is unbeatable for photography and beautiful walks. But perhaps most wonderful of all, the Faroese have managed to embrace modernity while maintaining a deep, steady engagement in their traditions of craft, culture and community. Our group will stay at accommodations in the capital city, Torshavn. Each day we’ll venture out to explore the islands around us. We’ll experience meals, concerts and talks in private homes, visit a sheep farm with surprisingly modern yarn and finished goods, get to know the history of this island country, investigate traditional Faroese knitted garments plus hear tales of trolls and times gone by.
When our tour comes to an end, we’ll fly westward to Iceland’s Keflavik Airport. Connect from there to fly home. Or, enjoy a stopover in Iceland and have some further adventures on your own! This tour to Copenhagen and the Faroe Islands only comes around every two or three years. If you’ve been waiting for a chance to join in, welcome aboard! We can’t wait to share this special journey with you.

We would describe this trip as a Woolly Wander.
Mobility Comfort Level = Mobility Level 3+
This tour includes a great deal of walking while in Copenhagen (i.e. walking tours, full days at museums and activities, use of public transportation to traverse the city). While in the Faroe Islands, you will need to be comfortable walking on uneven ground for up to two miles and boarding/disembarking from island ferries. Use of walking/hiking poles is strongly recommended.
