After breakfast, depart at 6:45 AM through the international border of Nogales. Ride through the Sonoran Desert to the Sea of Cortez, arriving at the beautiful seaside city of San Carlos in the state of Sonora. This beachfront subdivision in the city of Guaymas is known for the clarity and warmth of the ocean water in its shallow bays.

Depart Phoenix, AZ at 6:45 AM by bus, crossing the Nogales border to San Carlos, Sonora.

After breakfast at the HOTEL, depart from San Carlos at 8:00 AM for your journey to El Fuerte in the state of Sinaloa. En route, visit a pearl farm known as the "Perlas del Mar de Cortez" (Pearls of the Sea of Cortez). This pearl farm is located in the stunning Sea of Cortez, renowned for its clear waters and vibrant marine life. Discover the fascinating process of pearl cultivation, the various types of pearls produced, and the rich history of pearl diving in the region.

Depart San Carlos at 8:00 AM for El Fuerte, Sinaloa. Enjoy scenic views and stops for lunch, breaks, and shopping. Arrive in El Fuerte by 5:00 PM.

Gather at the pool for a lively presentation of the legendary vigilante El Zorro before dinner at Hotel Posada Hidalgo, where the legend is celebrated as part of the hotel's charm and history.

Stay at Posada del Hidalgo in El Fuerte, a historic 19th-century building tied to the region's rich heritage, including tales of bandits, heroes, and the legendary Zorro.

After breakfast at Hotel Posada Hidalgo, depart from El Fuerte at 8:15 AM to El Fuerte Train Station. Board the Chihuahua al Pacífico Railroad train for a 5-hour ride through the Copper Canyon on the famous El Chepe. As the train departs El Fuerte, it winds through lush valleys and rolling hills. The landscapes transform dramatically, revealing fertile farmland, rivers, and distant mountains. The journey showcases a variety of terrains, including dense forests, open fields, and rugged mountains. As you approach the Sierra Tarahumara, the scenery becomes more dramatic, with steep cliffs and deep canyons emerging. One of the journey's highlights is the breathtaking views of the surrounding canyons, with the train often running alongside stunning cliffs and ravines. Keep an eye out for wildlife along the route.

TRAIN SCHEDULE: Depart El Fuerte 09:20AM. Arrive Bahuichivo 2:25PM.

Depart El Chepe and board a van for a short ride to Hotel Mision in Cerocahui, a charming village in the Sierra Tarahumara.

Travelers will enjoy exciting sights, including a boarding school for Tarahumara girls, the historic Mission Church, and a scenic walk to a beautiful waterfall.

Before dinner, indulge in an exquisite Balderrama wine tasting experience, complemented by the vineyard located inside the hotel.

After breakfast at Hotel Mision, depart at 8:00 AM for Urique Canyon Overlook (7,000 ft); the deepest and most expansive view of the canyon on this itinerary. The Urique Canyon Overlook offers a stunning panoramic view of one of nature's most impressive landscapes. The dramatic cliffs, vibrant colors, lush vegetation, and winding river combine to create a breathtaking experience that captures the essence of the Copper Canyon region.

Check out from Hotel Mision before noon; then travel by van (1hr) to the Copper Canyon rim and Hotel Mirador on the Rim.

Stay at Hotel Mirador on the Rim, the most scenic location in Copper Canyon. Enjoy a relaxing atmosphere perfect for contemplating the natural wonders around you. From your room’s balcony, feel surrounded by the lush beauty and dramatic landscapes of the Copper Canyons.

After breakfast at Hotel Mirador, depart at 9:00 AM for Copper Canyon Adventure Park. Enjoy stunning canyon views from Divisadero. Optional activities include ziplining, a cable car, and more, available at an additional cost. We recommend a scenic walk along the canyon's edge to soak in the breathtaking vistas.

Today is a day to experience cultural interaction with the Tarahumara. Connect with the local culture and the Tarahumara people, who inhabit the region. A basket weaving demonstration will be presented by a local Tarahumara artisan. Travelers will learn about the remarkable legacy of the Tarahumara, including their rich culture and art. Your guide will present numerous opportunities to continue exploring the canyon, enjoying the gorgeous views and special events before dinner at Hotel Mirador.

Meals included.

After breakfast at Hotel Mirador, depart at 9:00 AM for Divisadero Train Station. Board El Chepe for a 7½-hour journey aboard this marvelous piece of engineering through the Sierra Madre Mountains, descending from 8,000 ft to sea level. The route takes you through pine forests, rocky cliffs, and open valleys. You'll observe the transition from the high-altitude terrain of the canyon rim to the lower elevations as you approach El Fuerte. Keep an eye out for wildlife along the way!

TRAIN SCHEDULE: Depart Divisadero at 09:55 AM; arrive in El Fuerte at 2:35 PM. Travelers will disembark for an afternoon in El Fuerte.

Founded in the 16th century, El Fuerte has a rich history from Spanish colonial times. Its name, meaning 'The Fort,' refers to the Spanish-built fort built to protect against indigenous attacks. The architecture and layout showcase its colonial heritage.

After breakfast at Hotel Sawari, depart at 8:00 AM from San Carlos to Arizona. Enjoy stunning landscapes on the scenic route to Phoenix. Have your passport ready for customs at the Nogales border. The journey takes 4 to 5 hours, excluding border time or stops, with arrival expected between 5:00 and 8:00 PM. Drop-off is available at Green Valley and Tucson, with the last stop in Phoenix. • Groups will depart to Mexico from Phoenix on Saturday and return/cross the border to Phoenix on Sunday.

• Registration: A completed registration/agreement form is required to reserve your seat on the tour.

• A passport with at least 6 months of validity is required.

• This tour is suitable for individuals in good health who can walk on rocky paths at high altitudes (up to 7800 ft elevations), maintain balance aboard a moving train, and endure extensive bus/van rides.

• Most rooms are equipped with 2 double beds. We will do our best to accommodate your preferred bed configuration.

• Activity Level: The Copper Canyon region in Mexico reaches an altitude of 8,600 ft. You need to be in good health. Moderate activity is required, including walks, stairs, and navigating uneven walkways; sidewalks and cobblestone streets are common. Walking tours are arranged where vehicle transportation is impossible. To experience everything mentioned in this itinerary, active participation is necessary. Expect longer walks at train stations or overlooks. If you feel unable to keep up with the group or require assistance, we recommend bringing a capable companion. The guide, tour director, and driver have many responsibilities, so please do not expect them or fellow travelers to provide ongoing assistance. Be mindful of your fellow travelers.

• Guide: A bilingual (English/Spanish) Mexican guide accompanies you throughout your stay in Mexico. The guide provides insightful commentary and knowledge about the local culture and history.

• Accommodations: Our hotel stays will be in unique and historic buildings with great locations. Due to the remoteness of the area, hotels do not have elevators. Hotel Posada Hidalgo requires a walk up a steep ramp, while Hotel Mirador may require a 3-4 story walk. The hotels listed in the itinerary are subject to change but will share similar characteristics.

• Documentation: A passport with at least six months of validity is required.
