We start rolling out of Agadir and drive through the beautiful argan forests where goats love to climb trees for the views. Our first stop is Taliouine, Morocco’s saffron capital, for a coffee break and a look at the famous red gold. Then we stop at Gas Haven, the spooky gas station from The Hills Have Eyes. After that we continue to Ait Ben Haddou, the iconic UNESCO clay village and Hollywood favorite. Finally we drive through the Road of 1000 Kasbahs and reach Rose Valley or Tinghir for dinner and a relaxing night.
After breakfast we visit the impressive Todra Gorge, a canyon with massive limestone walls that rise high into the sky. Then we explore the Tinghir Oasis with a local guide and stop by the Jewish quarter while learning about Berber carpets. After that we head toward Merzouga and the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Your bags go in the 4x4 and you hop on a camel for a sunset trek into the dunes. You can also try sandboarding before arriving at the desert camp for dinner, music and a night under the stars.
Wake up early for a magical sunrise over the dunes and enjoy a short camel ride back to the village. After breakfast we begin the long but beautiful drive to Fes. The road passes through the Ziz Valley, cedar forests and several mountain towns. We make regular breaks for food, photos and leg stretches. Expect to arrive in Fes by evening with a full camera roll and the kind of stories only the Sahara can give you.
