Take off on an extraordinary journey through the heart of Tanzania, exploring the diverse and captivating landscapes of Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park. This 3-day safari is your opportunity to witness Africa's iconic wildlife, breathtaking vistas, and rich cultural heritage.
Day 1: Lake Manyara National Park
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a hidden gem nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley. Prepare to be enchanted by the park's remarkable tree-climbing lions, flamingos wading in the alkaline lake, and an abundance of vibrant birdlife. Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the lush surroundings before venturing deeper into the park to spot elephants, giraffes, and an array of other wildlife. As the day draws to a close, your lodge or tented camp offers stunning views of the park and the Great Rift Valley, allowing you to unwind in tranquility.
Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater
After an early breakfast, journey to the Ngorongoro Crater, often dubbed "Africa's Eden." Descend into the world's largest unbroken volcanic caldera and experience the remarkable biodiversity within. Encounter the Big Five—lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and rhinoceros—in their natural habitat. Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the pristine crater surroundings while observing the interactions of the wildlife. In the afternoon, ascend to the rim and marvel at the awe-inspiring views of the crater below. Your overnight stay at a lodge overlooking the Ngorongoro Crater is a surreal and unforgettable experience.
Day 3: Tarangire National Park
On your final day, head to Tarangire National Park, known for its vast elephant herds and unique baobab trees. The park's expansive savannahs and riverbanks are a haven for diverse wildlife, including zebras, wildebeests, and cheetahs. Take a guided nature walk or visit a local Maasai village to gain insight into the traditional culture and customs of the indigenous people. Your safari adventure culminates with a delicious picnic lunch within the park. During our safari today, we’ll keep our eyes peeled for some tree-climbing lions, which love this side of the park. Lake Manyara is also known to have the largest number of primates on earth, so we’ll also have to look out for the fun and energy that the local baboon population brings!
Referred to as ‘Africa’s Eden’, this UNESCO World Heritage crater is over 260km² (100 miles²) long and was formed 2-3 million years ago after a volcano exploded and collapsed on itself.
We’ll arrive at the rim after a journey through the Ngorongoro Highlands and then descend down 610m (2000 ft) onto its floor to start your safari experience.
On the final day of our safari, we’ll drive out into Tarangire National Park, arriving early in the morning to begin our game drive. With huge numbers of elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and antelope, particularly in the dry season between June and early November, the Tarangire River is the perfect wildlife spotting destination.
Elephants in particular love this area as they roam through Tarangire’s savannah and shelter from the sun under the Baobab (upside-down trees). This area is a bird watchers paradise as it’s home to over 550 different bird species, the most diverse in Africa, including the Kori Bustard, the heaviest flying bird on earth!
