About this trip
A few kilometers away from Rainbow Mountain sits one of the highest mountains in Peru, Ausangate. So imposing even from a distance, its importance to the locals remains with their ancestors, the Incas.
This adventure begins on the first day at the foot of Ausangate mountain, with plenty of alpaca herds and llamas along the way; we spend our nights in a comfortable glamping tent, with meals and activities designed to give you the most comfortable experience camping in high altitude.
On the third day, we will approach Rainbow Mountain for the golden hour to get the best lighting and also avoid the crowds.

DAY 1 CUSCO - PUCA QOCHA - ANANTA
- 3 am The adventure starts with the pick-up from your hotel.
- Drive for 4 hours to Alcatary, where the hike starts. After some freshly made coffee and warm oatmeal to fuel up our energies, we start the hike to Puca Qocha Pass, 4990m (16.370 ft).
- Along the hike, we will stop a few times to snap a photo. The landscape is beautiful from the beginning to the end.
- The hike up takes 3.5 hours to make it to the summit.
- After a few hours shooting at the top, let’s go get some lunch, which is waiting warm and fresh at the campsite.
- In the afternoon, our chef will show us some cooking activities.
- Early dinner and then practice some astrophotography if the weather allows it.
DAY 2
- Enjoy your Peruvian-style breakfast while overlooking the countryside.
- Along the hike, we will have photogenic views to stop and shoot.
- Warmi Sayac Pass has one of the best and most epic views for snacking and photographing.
- Picnic Lunch at the Campsite
- Naptime to recharge energies for the afternoon
- Hike to Rainbow Mountain for sunset and have a good cup of coffee or coca tea there.
- Light dinner to help acclimatize.
DAY 3
- Early breakfast to fuel up and start the hike
- Be at the rainbow mountain for sunrise
- Photo shot during golden hour
- Hike to Red Valley if the weather allows it
- Our last meal before heading back to Cusco
- After 3 hours driving, drop off at your hotel.
