DAY 1 – El Calafate
El Calafate, declared national capital of the glaciers, is the starting point to visit this region. Settled on the southern shore of Lago Argentino, Santa Cruz, it has the ideal tourist facilities, joining the natural environment with all the necessary comfort for a pleasant stay. This first day is for you to just relax or explore the town, enjoy the delicious gastronomy and the homemade sweets.
DAY 2 – Perito Moreno Glacier Alternative Tour
Perito Moreno Glacier is arguably one of the most impressive natural wonders in Patagonia
and a “must-see” for all visitors!
We leave early as to take advantage of the area all by ourselves, with no rush and plenty of time for birdwatching. Every time you want to stop for pictures you'll be able to. When we get to Moreno Glacier, after a very cool drive through the National Park and the steppe accompanied by an expert professional guide, we don't go straight to the regular panoramic point. That will come after our walk outside the conventional circuits, where we will enjoy rejoicing in the calmness of the alternative route the glaciers north face in all its splendor, watching and hearing giant chunks of ice plummet into the waters of Lake Argentino. Our expert guide will explain to you anything you want to know about the area and glaciology, as we walk in front of Moreno Glacier on a nature interpretation walk.
Then we go to the footbridges area, where you have time to enjoy at your leisure. At the end of the tour, we have the opportunity to ride a boat in front of the Iceberg channel (NOT included in the price). After the dizzying encounter with Moreno Glacier, we head back to El Calafate, arriving around 5 PM.
DAY 3- Perito Moreno Glacier
You will be picked up from the hotel in direction to Puerto de Punta Bandera, 5km away from El Calafate, so you can enjoy the ride to appreciate the nature and magnificence of the landscape.
One at the port, we will start sailing along the North Arm of Lake Argentino. We will cross the Boca del Diablo to the Upsala Channel and navigate among the large icebergs that detach from the front of the Upsala Glacier. This is an amazing opportunity to see the Glacier as a whole and even catch a giant piece of ice detaching!
Then we will enter the Spegazzini Channel and moments later we will have the first view of the Seco Glacier. We will continue sailing to the front of the Spegazzini Glacier where we will also contemplate the Heim Sur and Peineta glaciers. We will then disembark at Spegazzini Base and begin our visit to the area walking through the forest trail to the Spegazzini Refuge. There we will be able to connect with the flora and fauna of the area in contrast with the Glaciers.
