After the excitement of the IDFPA Bench Press Championship, join us for an unforgettable journey through some of Iceland’s most remote, dramatic and beautiful regions. This small-group post-tour combines adventure, relaxation and authentic Icelandic experiences as we travel from North Iceland through the wild Strandir coast, West Iceland and the countryside of South Iceland before finishing in Reykjavík.

Our journey begins with an Icelandic horse experience and a scenic drive to the peaceful fishing village of Drangsnes. Here, guests can relax in geothermal hot pots beside the ocean while watching the sky for the Northern Lights. We then continue along the rugged coastline to the historic settlement of Djúpavík, one of Iceland’s most atmospheric and isolated destinations, surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and the remains of an old herring factory.

From the Westfjords, we travel south to Húsafell for one of the tour’s greatest adventures: a journey onto Langjökull Glacier and into the extraordinary man-made ice tunnels hidden deep inside the glacier. We will also experience the beautiful waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss before continuing to Landhotel, where the open countryside and dark skies provide another opportunity to look for the Northern Lights.

Our final touring day brings us back toward Reykjavík, with scenic and cultural stops along the way. The last evening is yours to enjoy in Iceland’s colorful capital, with its excellent restaurants, shops and lively atmosphere. After a comfortable night in Reykjavík, transportation will be provided to Keflavík International Airport for your departure.

This tour has been designed especially for championship athletes, families, supporters and friends who would like to extend their Iceland experience beyond the competition. With a maximum of eight guests per vehicle, the journey offers a personal and flexible way to discover Iceland together.

Day 1 – From North Iceland to the Wild Westfjords

Icelandic Horses, Coastal Scenery and the Drangsnes Hot Pots

After breakfast and check-out, we will collect you from your selected IDFPA Championship accommodation and begin our journey from North Iceland toward the remote Strandir coast of the Westfjords.

Our first adventure will take place in beautiful Skagafjörður, a region famous for its strong connection to the Icelandic horse. Near Varmahlíð, we will meet these friendly and sure-footed horses and enjoy a guided ride through the northern countryside. The experience is suitable for beginners as well as experienced riders, giving everyone an opportunity to discover the unique character—and perhaps the famously smooth tölt—of the Icelandic horse. Following our ride, we will continue west through the changing landscapes of Northwest Iceland, stopping for lunch and photographs along the way. As we leave the Ring Road behind, the scenery becomes increasingly remote, with quiet valleys, mountains and sweeping views across the fjords.

In the late afternoon, we arrive in the tiny coastal village of Drangsnes, where we will check in at Guesthouse Malarhorn. Located beside Steingrímsfjörður, the guesthouse offers comfortable accommodation, breakfast and easy access to the village’s local restaurant and geothermal bathing facilities. (Visit Westfjords)

Before or after dinner, guests can change into their swimsuits and relax in the famous Drangsnes seaside hot pots. These naturally heated pools sit directly beside the ocean and are used throughout the year. As darkness settles over the fjord, this is a wonderfully Icelandic place to unwind—surrounded by fresh sea air, mountains and, when conditions are favorable, the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights above the water. Day 2 – Into the Wild: Drangsnes to Djúpavík

Icelandic Folklore, the Remote Strandir Coast and Herring History

After breakfast, we leave Drangsnes and continue our journey deeper into the remote Strandir region of the Westfjords.

Our first stop will be the small coastal town of Hólmavík, where we visit the fascinating Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft. Through Icelandic folklore and stories from the country’s 17th-century witch trials, we will discover a mysterious side of Icelandic history filled with spells, magical symbols and unusual local traditions. We will also have time for lunch in Hólmavík before continuing north.

Leaving the town behind, we travel along the wild and sparsely populated Strandir coastline. The road becomes narrow and winding as it follows quiet fjords beneath steep mountains, offering dramatic ocean views and plenty of opportunities for photography. This is one of Iceland’s least-visited regions, and the journey itself is a true part of the adventure.

During the afternoon, we arrive in the tiny settlement of Djúpavík, surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and the waters of Reykjarfjörður. We will check in at the historic Hotel Djúpavík, originally built during the great herring era of the 1930s.

Subject to availability and prior arrangement, we will explore the enormous abandoned herring factory and hear the remarkable story of the workers and families who once lived in this isolated community. There will also be time for a short walk around the village and toward the waterfall rising behind the factory.

After dinner, we can relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this extraordinary location. With almost no artificial light in the surrounding area, Djúpavík may also provide beautiful conditions for Northern Lights viewing when the sky is clear and aurora activity is present.

Day 3 – From the Wild Westfjords to Húsafell

Remote Coastlines, Icelandic Countryside and a Highland Retreat

After breakfast, we say goodbye to the remote beauty of Djúpavík and begin our journey south toward Húsafell in West Iceland.

The first part of today’s drive takes us back along the spectacular Strandir coastline. This narrow and winding road follows the fjords beneath steep mountains, with wonderful views across the sea and countless opportunities for photographs. The journey from Djúpavík to Hólmavík takes approximately 1½ to 2 hours and is an adventure in itself. (Höldur Car Rental)

We will stop in Hólmavík for refreshments before continuing through the quiet valleys and farming communities of West Iceland. Along the way, we will pause for lunch and enjoy short scenic stops whenever weather, daylight and road conditions allow.

As we approach Húsafell, the landscape changes once again. Lava fields, birch woodland, rivers and distant glaciers surround this peaceful area at the edge of Iceland’s central highlands. If time and daylight permit, we will visit the beautiful Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls before checking in. Hraunfossar is located only a few kilometres from Húsafell, where countless streams of clear water emerge from beneath an ancient lava field and flow into the Hvítá River. (Moon Travel Guides)

We then arrive at Hotel Húsafell, our comfortable home for the night. Guests can settle into their rooms, enjoy dinner and relax before the following day’s great adventure into Langjökull Glacier. With very little artificial light in the surrounding countryside, we will also watch the evening sky for the Northern Lights, weather and solar activity permitting.

Today’s route and sightseeing stops are subject to weather, daylight and road conditions, particularly along the road south from Djúpavík.

Day 4 – Into the Heart of a Glacier

Langjökull Ice Tunnel, Lava Waterfalls and Landhotel

After breakfast and check-out, we begin one of the greatest adventures of the tour: the Into the Glacier experience at Langjökull, Iceland’s second-largest glacier.

Departing from Húsafell, we travel toward the glacier in a specially modified glacier vehicle built to cross the snow and ice. The journey across Langjökull offers spectacular views of the surrounding highlands before we reach the entrance to the world’s largest man-made ice tunnel.

Led by an experienced glacier guide, we will walk deep inside the glacier through extraordinary corridors of blue and white ice. Along the way, we will learn how glaciers form, see layers of ancient ice and experience the remarkable feeling of standing inside one of Iceland’s great natural wonders. The experience lasts approximately three and a half to four hours and includes around one hour inside the glacier. Warm waterproof clothing, sturdy shoes, gloves and a hat are essential. After returning to Húsafell, we will enjoy lunch before visiting the nearby Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, if they were not visited the previous evening. At Hraunfossar, countless streams of clear glacial water flow from beneath an ancient lava field into the Hvítá River. A short walk leads to Barnafoss, where the river rushes dramatically through a narrow rocky gorge. (Húsafell)

We then continue south through the Icelandic countryside toward Landhotel. Upon arrival, guests can check in, enjoy dinner and relax after an unforgettable day. The hotel’s peaceful rural location, far from the lights of Reykjavík, gives us another opportunity to watch for the Northern Lights if the sky is clear and aurora activity is present.

Day 5 – Fire Beneath the Earth and Reykjavík Finale

Lava Tunnel Adventure, Reykjavík Highlights and a Farewell Evening

After breakfast and check-out, we leave Landhotel and begin the final touring day of our Icelandic adventure.

Our main experience today takes us beneath the surface of Iceland at Raufarhólshellir, one of the country’s best-known lava tunnels. During a guided one-hour tour, we will follow specially constructed pathways into an extraordinary underground world shaped by a volcanic eruption thousands of years ago. Illuminated walls reveal layers of colorful minerals, unusual lava formations and the path once taken by flowing molten rock. Helmets and lights are provided, while warm clothing, waterproof outerwear and sturdy footwear are recommended. The tunnel is accessible throughout the year and is located approximately 30 minutes from Reykjavík. (The Lava Tunnel)

After returning to daylight, we continue toward Reykjavík, stopping for lunch along the way. Upon arrival in the capital, we will enjoy an orientation tour featuring some of the city’s best-known sights, including Hallgrímskirkja Church, the colorful streets of the city center, the Sun Voyager sculpture, Harpa Concert Hall and the Old Harbour. We will then take you to your Reykjavík accommodation, where you can check in and prepare for the final evening of the tour.

Guests may choose to add a visit to Sky Lagoon, a beautiful oceanside geothermal retreat close to Reykjavík. Relax in the warm lagoon overlooking the North Atlantic and experience the seven-part Skjól Ritual, inspired by Icelandic bathing traditions. This evening, we gather for a farewell dinner in Reykjavík and celebrate an unforgettable journey through Iceland—from the remote coast of Strandir and the historic settlement of Djúpavík to glaciers, waterfalls, volcanic landscapes and geothermal waters.

Day 6 – Departure Day

A Relaxed Final Morning or an Optional Blue Lagoon Visit

After breakfast, we check out of our Reykjavík hotel and enjoy the final hours of our Icelandic journey. Flights are scheduled to depart from Keflavík International Airport at approximately 17:00, and we plan to arrive at the airport by 15:00 for check-in and security.

Guests may choose between two departure-day options:

Option 1 – Reykjavík at Leisure

Spend a relaxed morning in Reykjavík with time to explore independently. Take a final walk through the city center, visit local shops, enjoy a café or lunch, or pick up a few last Icelandic souvenirs. At the agreed time, we will collect the group and transfer directly to Keflavík International Airport, arriving at approximately 15:00.

Option 2 – Blue Lagoon Departure Experience

Guests may add a final visit to the world-famous Blue Lagoon before leaving Iceland. After checking out of the hotel, we travel to the Reykjanes Peninsula for a relaxing geothermal bath surrounded by lava fields. Towels, changing facilities and luggage storage are available, making this a comfortable experience before the flight.

After the visit, we continue directly to Keflavík International Airport and arrive at approximately 15:00.

The Blue Lagoon visit is optional and is not included in the main tour price. Admission must be reserved in advance and will be offered at an additional cost.
