About this trip

This program is ideal for those who want to get off the beaten path and enjoy the pristine nature of the patagonian fjords. Come explore our estancia with an experienced local guide and share stories, wine and regional foods while marveling at the untouched corners of this part of the world.

Our multi-day guests enjoy a stay in our newly renovated countryside cabin known as “La Barrosa.” This quaint off the grid getaway is located 8km from the main estancia houses and comes with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room and kitchen area.  This experience is sold as a full board package that includes your own private guide, all trekking and horseback activities, meals, beverages and transportation to and from the estancia via boat. This is the ultimate opportunity to disconnect from the world as La Barrosa has no internet or phone reception.

General Itinerary

Your program begins with a shared 40 minute navigation through the Last Hope Fjord to Estancia la Peninsula where you will be welcomed to the main house with a light breakfast. You will discuss your personalized schedule with your guide depending on if you are doing trekking, horseback riding or just want to go straight to the barrosa cabin to relax or do shorter activities. The schedule is quite flexible depending on the weather and your personal physical abilities. The day’s activities could last for as little as one hour or as much as six, and we have routes made for all levels of fitness. Once your plan is made bigger luggage will be loaded into the truck to be driven to the cabin and you will take your day items with you (such as layers, sunblock, camera etc.).

At some point during your Barrosa adventure you will join up with our full day tour for lunch at the main estancia house to eat a traditional Patagonian lamb barbeque. Afterwards you will enjoy a demonstration of how our sheep dogs work and see one of our gauchos shear a sheep in our barn.

Bed Arrangements

The cabin has two rooms each with a private bathroom and the following bed arrangements:

– 1 room with a double bed (which can also be separated into two twin beds)
– 1 room with twin beds and the possibility to add another bed as a bunk bed.
* It is possible to have both rooms with double beds, but we recommend you check with us before booking.

For larger groups, there can be tents set up by the house, being able to use the bathrooms and dining room makes everything easier, some of you still can use the rooms in the house.

Food & Beverages

All meals are provided for the duration of your stay and we are able to accommodate for any restrictions if advised ahead of time. Dinner will consist of a light starter, main dish and dessert. Breakfast has an array of items such as fruit, eggs, yogurt, granola, local bread and jams, fruit juice and of course locally roasted coffee. On one of the days lunch will be a pack lunch of sandwiches, fruit and trail mix and on the other day it will be a lamb barbeque meal at the main estancia house. Beverages include a variety of Chilean red and white wines, local beers, locally distilled gin, whisky and pisco for those who want to try a Chilean spirit. We do not offer sodas. Please feel free to bring any additional beverages you may like that you do not see listed.  We do not supply plastic water bottles, you must bring your own reusable bottle to fill up with our fresh non-treated mountain water.

How to get there

MacLean Dock at Puerto Bories

https://estanciaspatagonia.com/meeting-point/

Day 1 starts at 09.00 AM at our dock dock located 10 minutes outside of Puerto Natales in Puerto Bories (see meeting point). We advise you to sleep in Puerto Natales before and after your visit to the estancia so you do not have any transportation issues. Do not plan to come back from the estancia and go straight to the airport. Please plan your flight out for at least one day after your visit.

Plan B - Weather Cancellation

Patagonia is famous for its strong winds which could cancel our Full Day tour if the captain says the fjord is too windy for the navigation. In that case we have a Plan B for our multi-day adventures. Guests will cross the channel in a local boat in front of Puerto Natales where it is much more protected than the open fjord. From there an off road truck will be waiting to bring you along the coast to the estancia. This could also be the case if the Full Day tour is canceled for your day leaving the estancia, hence why we advise not to book your flight out on the same day.

Cancellation Policy

Private Program reservations cancelled more than 60 days in advance will be fully refunded (100%). If the cancellation occurs between 30 and 59 days, a 50% refund will be given. However, if the reservation is cancelled less than 30 days before, no refund will be provided.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at La Peninsula during the Full Day Estancia tour. We visited in mid April and the weather was fantastic. The hospitality of the staff, the views from the property were all top notch. The lamb was the best meat I have tasted my entire life. Our multigenerational family group (ages 6 to 74) thoroughly enjoyed our visit and learned a lot about the Estancia culture in Patagonia. I highly recommend this day tour if you are staying in Puerto Natales.

It was one of the highlights of my trip to Chile, we had the best time! Alejandro our guide was a legend, he thought us so many things about Patagonia and the Estancia. Donald was also an icon, showing us how to handle and herd sheeps, it was super impressive. The food prepared by Carlos was also amazing, a real feast. I can only recommend this activity, it was a mental reset and a real joy for me and my whole family!

We had a fantastic experience! It was our first full day/outing on our 3 weeks long Patagonia trip and so far it's been the highlight and hard to beat. Alejandro is an amazing guide, we learned a lot about the history of the region and he always made sure our wine glasses were full :) we had never ridden a horse before but felt very at ease as the horses are tame and easy to ride. The views, food, and entire experience couldn't have been better - book this trip!!!

Our group of 4 really had a great day (I'm sure the good weather we had helped, too). The day was as described... The boat ride was smooth, we arrived and had a light breakfast (pastries/coffee/tea) while enjoying the views before heading out to hike/horseback ride. We did the horseback riding and the length was good. I've done a few tourist trail rides like this one in the past and this was probably my favorite. Once back they served wine or beer and we watched the lamb being cooked on a spit being prepped for lunch (and getting to try it). Lunch was served and the food plentiful (and great). After lunch, we saw the sheepdog and steering demonstrations. Overall, their hospitality was wonderful (very friendly, answering questions, offering seconds at lunch, etc.) and despite doing a lot that day, we never felt rushed and had some downtime between activities.

We spent 12 days in Patagonia including EcoCamp in TdP, Calafate, and El Chalten. Our favorite day trip was Estanchia Peninsula. Everything about this day trip is extremely well done. The lead guide was an absolute wealth of knowledge on the history, culture, and natural features of the region. The main building for meeting and dining is very comfortable, tastefully decorated, and renovated with 4 bathrooms, all immaculate. They treat you like royalty with a full meal of lamb barbecue, wonderful side dishes, and drinks. The horseback ride was stunning with the setting between the fjord and the mountains. The sheepdog demonstration was very entertaining and the sheep shearing and ranch life presentation very professional and interesting. I highly recommend anyone visiting or passing through Puerto Natales to visit Estancia Peninsula.
