Scenic Departure from Quito
Your journey begins with a beautiful drive east from Quito, where the high Andean peaks open into dramatic landscapes. Our first stop is the Virgin Viewpoint, an ideal place to admire the majestic Antisana Volcano—one of Ecuador’s most impressive giants (weather permitting).
We continue along the Interoceanic Highway, slowly descending from the Andes into the lush Amazon basin.
Optional Stop: Papallacta Hot Springs (3,400 m / 11,154 ft)
If you wish, we can pause at the world-famous Papallacta Hot Springs. Soak in warm, medicinal waters surrounded by the ancient volcanic caldera of Chakana, the perfect way to relax before entering the rainforest.
Explore the Historic Town of Baeza (1,900 m / 6,233 ft)
Discover Baeza, a city that survived the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors and remains a gateway to the Amazon. Located in the beautiful Quijos Valley, Baeza is known today as the kayaking capital of Ecuador and an important settlement of ancestral Quijos culture.
Archidona – Land of Jumandi (577 m / 1,893 ft)
Continue to Archidona, birthplace of the legendary Amazonian leader Jumandi. This region is rich in natural and cultural attractions:
Jumandi Caves
Sumaco Volcano views
Sacred Valley Petroglyphs of Cotundo
Cacao, coffee & wayusa plantations
Natural swimming holes and jungle canyons
In the dry season, the Ñachiyacu Grand Canyon is a stunning place for exploration.
A Glimpse of Tena (598 m / 1,961 ft)
As we descend deeper into the forest, temperatures rise and the rainforest becomes denser. Along the way, enjoy views of stormy Andean rivers and the beautiful Las 3 Marías waterfalls.
We make a short stop in Tena, the gateway city to the Ecuadorian Amazon, perfect for a stroll or souvenir shopping.
