Itinerary

4 day trip Coiba
4 day dive trip Coiba with 3 nights stay at The Liquid Jungle Lab

Our mission is simple:

Provide our guests with the best possible service at reasonable rates so that they can enjoy their trip as much as possible. We offer 3- to 6-day trips or longer packages based on your needs.

Comfortable stay for affordable prices and close to the dive sites:

This is why we have decided to offer dive- and stay packages at the Liquid Jungle Lab on Simca Island, this way we can offer you a unique experience that will allow you to enjoy your dive adventure at its fullest. From here, you'll be able to reach many dive sites within 15 minutes by boat and some remote sites – rarely visited in day trips (because of the long boat ride of 2 hours+) from Santa Catalina in 30 to 45 minutes. Enjoy a comfortable stay with delicious food, drink, and accommodations at a fraction of the cost of live-a-board diving.

Most experienced guides and crew:

We have been working since 2003 in this area - the first and original dive center of Coiba. Scuba Coiba's guides are the most experienced around Coiba. They have been working together for many years and have over 50 years of combined experience as divers themselves – more than 30 years combined around Coiba only! They'll make you feel right at home with their laid-back attitudes, knowledge of the ocean, and willingness to go out of their way for you.

Short itinerary:

Usually, we start our trip from Santa Catalina, leaving at 8:00 am the first day and heading towards Coiba National Park. We will do 3 dives, have a cold lunch on a beach and check into The Liquid Jungle Lab in the afternoon, enjoying the private jungle setting of our accommodation. Day 2 and 3 we start from Isla Simca after breakfast. Day 3 (or last day, extension days are available) we return after the third dive to Santa Catalina, where will arrive around 4:00 pm.

On request, it is also possible to start and/or end the trip in Pixvae instead of Santa Catalina. A new road is being built from Sona to Pixvae and after it is finished in 2023, it will be only 1 hour drive from Sona to Pixvae. Pixvae also has an airstrip owned by Isla Simca, which makes it possible to fly into Pixvae by charter and get a transfer to Simca (20 to minutes by boat).

The trip was amazing from start to finish. Herbie was very helpful and responsive in giving us advice on getting to Santa Catalina, and when we got there everything was set up with minimal fuss. Our trip was 9 dives and led by Cedric and staying in Pixvae. He was amazing, quickly worked us out both as divers and people and was both entertaining and helpful in and out the water. Pixvae was very cute and the accomodation was perfect for what we needed. The divng was amazing, great variety in life, depth and backdrop. Highlights were the sheer number of fish and sharks, and seeing whales from the boat and hearing them singing underwater. The general scenery above water was also stunning, deserted beaches leading up into jungle hills. I couldnt recommend this trip more for anyone who dives.

Dear Gretchen, We are sorry too. Unfortunately one instructor was on a multi-day trip, the other instructor who was assigned to you fell ill the day before and we have one more divemaster who can leead certified divers but not doing courses. I cannot change the fact, that the instructor was sick and could not go diving. I called all other dive dive centers in Santa Catalina, but nobody was able to do the course with you on short notice. I am sorry, but I cannot heal illnesses. I hope you could finish your course somewhere else in the meantime.

World class diving, millions of fish, and some wonderful hammerheads, and I enjoyed the remoteness and quiet of the basic bunk house on the edge of the Coiba Marine Reserve, and faster access from there. Variable visibility on this trip from 5m in the brown/green thermocline at around 30metres, to 15m in the warmer water above. Adaptor, extension and power packs essential if you want to charge up cameras and lights as generator power was only on for a few hours in the evening, no phone nor WIFI signal at bunk house either. Taking photos was challenging due to the no-stop style of the dive guide and the visibility - the former easily remedied.
