Today is a big day with a lot of ‘off road’. A journey that takes us climbing up and around the Nam Gnon Lakes. Reaching those lakes gives us some great not to be missed views of the surrounding countryside. Then we hit the new road and ride down into Long Tieng. Long Tieng was a military base which during the Laotian Civil War, served as a town and airbase operated by America’s Central Intelligence Agency. We will move onto the town of Anouvong and overnight there. 

Today we leave for Phonsavan which we will reach in the afternoon passing through Xam Thong LS20 which played it’s own major role in the war. The new school stands on the old Hospitals base and the Air America bunk House Chimney also still stands. 

On arrival there, we will visit the Plain of Jars. The Plain of Jars is a huge site of stone urns, some with lids. What the jars were used for isn’t known, but there are many guesses. The most popular guess is that the jars were used as a ‘burial ground’. Time permitting we can visit other sites such as the 1000 Step Mountain or the Spoon Village. The evening will see us at our local guesthouse. 

We’ll be up and away early for our last days ride, its a big one. Mostly off road with some great mountain sections, river crossings and the wide open planes of Xiang Khouang.  On arrival in Luang Prabang, we’ll check into our Hotel, and get ready for the evenings entertainment in this beautiful city.
