About this trip

Discover the spectacular landscapes of the Scottish Highlands and the magical Isle of Skye on this four-day private adventure with Up ’n About Scotland.

From ancient woodland and dramatic mountain scenery to rugged coastlines, picturesque villages and breathtaking sea views, this journey gives you more time to explore one of Scotland’s most beautiful regions without feeling rushed.

Travelling with a private driver-guide, we’ll explore at a relaxed pace, stopping to enjoy the scenery, take photographs, discover local history and experience the places that make Scotland so special.

Day 1 – Through Perthshire to the Isle of Skye

Our adventure begins with a scenic journey north through beautiful Perthshire. Depending on our route, we may visit the Taste Perthshire area and The Hermitage, where a woodland walk leads through magnificent trees to the dramatic Black Linn Falls.

We’ll continue north, stopping for lunch along the way before travelling through spectacular Highland scenery towards the Isle of Skye. We’ll aim to stay around Broadford, giving us a convenient base for exploring the island.

Day 2 – Discover the Isle of Skye

Today is dedicated to exploring Skye’s incredible landscapes. Highlights may include the iconic Old Man of Storr, the dramatic mountain scenery of the Quiraing and the island’s rugged coastline.

We’ll make time for scenic viewpoints, photography, charming villages and short walks where conditions and time allow. The exact route will depend on the weather, daylight and your interests.

Day 3 – Elgol, Loch Coruisk & the Sea

We’ll explore the beautiful south of Skye, including Elgol, famous for its spectacular views towards the Black Cuillin mountains.

There may be an opportunity to take a boat trip from Elgol, depending on the season, sailing schedules, weather and availability. Options may include visiting the remote Loch Coruisk or looking for puffins and other seabirds at the appropriate time of year.

The boat trip is optional and any booking costs are additional. Depending on your preferred itinerary, we can spend a third night on Skye or travel to the Fort William area for an overnight stay.

Day 4 – Glenfinnan Viaduct, Glencoe & Your Return Journey

We’ll leave Skye and continue towards the mainland. An optional ferry crossing from Armadale to Mallaig can be included in the route, subject to sailing schedules and availability, or we can travel by road via the Skye Bridge.

Our journey takes us through the spectacular West Highlands, with the opportunity to visit Glenfinnan Viaduct, famous for its appearance in the Harry Potter films. We’ll also explore the dramatic mountain scenery of Glencoe before continuing towards Glasgow or Edinburgh, depending on your final destination and the time available.
