This journey will take you up-close to the best of the Maya Biosphere Reserve! Venture into the lush jungle to explore the cultural and archeological history of the region. Through storytelling and shared knowledge, you will learn about Mayan spirituality and cosmovision, Maya traditions, history and biodiversity in some of the most emblematic sites in Mesoamerica and will trekk to the largest pyramid in volume in the world-La Danta. The heart of the Maya world is awaiting!

Trekk to El Mirador

Prepare for an expedition in the jungle for 5 days and 4 nights with other travelers and the community local guides of the Carmelita Community. El Mirador is home to the largest pyramid in volume in the world-La Danta. The adventure will begin in Flores Island at 5AM. A breakdown of the days is as follows:

Day 1- Hike to El Tintal Archaeological Site, stopping at Carmelita and El Guacute Campsite.

Day 2- Hike to La Muerta Archaeological Site and sunset (if conditions allow) in El Mirador. 

Day 3-El Mirador exploration and sunset (if conditions allow) . 

Day 4-Hike back to El Tintal.

Day 5-Hike back to Carmelita by noon and Flores by 4:00PM. 


The average temperature for the hike will be between 36° and 42° Celsius and the humidity will be around 85%. It's a challenging adventure and will require you to trekk for 20 to 25 kms (5 to 6 hours) everyday. You must be able to ride a horse and are only allowed to bring a small luggage item with only the essentials (toiletries, refillable water bottle, insect repellent, rain poncho, enough clothes, sandals for the showers and trekking shoes, among other things you may need). If you're joining a group, the size of the group you will join will be no more than 15 travelers and you will have assistance from the guides in carrying your luggage. They will provide all the meals and camping gear you will need.

Only bring with you what's necessary and travel light. as well as don't carry any unnecessary valuables. Items you should carry with you are:

-Windproof and rain jacket

IMPORTANT - Read before booking

This is a true expedition-style trek requiring sustained physical effort and mental endurance over multiple days. Expect long daily hikes, cumulative fatigue, hot and humid jungle conditions, insects, unpredictable weather, and basic camp infrastructure. Adaptability is essential.
