The island is shaped like a triangle 14 miles (23 km) long by 7 miles (11 km) wide, it has an area of 63 square miles (163 square km). Mount Terevaka, is the highest point at 1,969 feet (600 metres) above sea level. Hanga Roa is the one and only town. It is quite easy to drive around the island in one day, stopping at several historical sites. For most people, 3 days is the minimum amount of time needed to experience the Rapa Nui culture and history.
Daily flights depart from Santiago airport every morning. It's necessary to arrive in Santiago at least one day before your flight to Easter Island.

Full-day excursion to the southeastern coast:
Sunrise at Ahu Tongariki: the island’s largest ceremonial platform with 15 restored moai. Rano Raraku Quarry: the "moai factory" with unfinished statues.
Ahu Akahanga: ruins and toppled moai. Then enjoy a picnic lunch.
On the return, visit Ana Kai Tangata cave with ancient bird paintings.
(optional) Horse riding or Hiking to the summit of Terevaka Volcano at sunset. You will see the whole island from above. (cost of horse rental not included)
