A Typical Day

As the sun rises, enjoy a morning meditation on the beach, tie up those runners and go for a beach run, or have a lie in. It’s your vacation and your call!

We’ll meet in the fitness room each morning for an AfterBurn workout led by our expert trainer. You’ll get high energy, fun, and challenging workouts designed to burn maximum fat and tone your entire body in only 30-45 minutes.

The specialized Afterburn workouts use a combination of (HIIT) High Intensity Interval Training and Active Rest Training to get your body to burn more fat and calories than traditional workouts that are twice as long.
Whether you're new to working out or you're an experienced fitness buff he will help to modify every workout so that you'll achieve your goals!

We’ll replenish with a power protein smoothie and some agua, while making our way to the yoga shala which is steps away.

You’ll then be led in a vinyasa flow yoga class with a view of the sea and those beautiful sea breezes.  The flow yoga taught by Kathy Parsons, is a creative sequence of connecting hatha poses designed to connect body, mind, and spirit through strengthening, lengthening and opening. There will be a particular focus on stretches that complement our fitness classes. The classes are set to inspiring music and incorporate a special savasana massage. The classes are suitable for all levels of yogi’s.  The second yoga class (usually in the late afternoon or evening) will be more stretch and restorative in nature.

There are two organic, healthy meals served each day at the beachside restaurant La Mesa Taina using only the best ingredients grown nearby. The menu is designed to give you the protein and nutrients you need to fuel your body for optimal performance.

There is plenty of free time to get a well-deserved massage, try SUP or surfing, relax by the pool or ocean or explore the town which is only five minutes away. On the Friday, there is an optional organized excursion to a world-class organic farm which includes a fresh lunch and a float down a gorgeous river in tubes.

After dinner each evening there will be plenty of time for socializing, chilling or exploring the nightlife nearby. We'll also have a bonfire on our final evening.

"I've practiced various styles of yoga for about 13 years, but Kathy is the first teacher who ever made yoga personal for me. For the first time, I experienced the connection of mind, body, breath, and spirit, and it changed the way I view yoga forever. Kathy is so much fun, funny, and friendly in class, and at the same time, teaches in a very loving way". Elizabeth, NYC, 2016

"Amazing retreat, feeling recharged and ready for the world! Thanks Kathy. Beautifully organized, a very thoughtful program and a great group of people. Perfect setting on the beach as well!"
Christina, Yoga & Fitness Retreat in Cabarete, February 1-4, 2018

"Kathy is kind and encouraging, with so much positive, infectious energy. She really made me feel good about myself and my new yoga practice. And Daryl's tough love and never-ending smile helped me excel in the fitness sessions... I was surprised by what I could do!
It was obvious a lot of thought and heart went into planning the retreat.
The entire experience has inspired me to again make fitness and meditation an important part of my life, and I left with some tips and recommendations from both Kathy & Daryl on how best to start that journey".

Kathy is a gifted teacher and organized an exceptional retreat. The yoga and HIIT classes were accessible and challenging for any level of fitness, the food was excellent, and there were a lot of unique experiences that demonstrated Kathy's incredibly thoughtful, encouraging, kind, and fun style. Highly recommend!

I had a wonderful time on Kathy’s retreat! It was very well organized and thought through. The yoga was phenomenal! The classes helped built my strength and flexibility over the retreat. The HITT classes were great for cardio and strength. Kathy added lots of amazing touches throughout the retreat!

I am not sure where to begin as I think back on my time with Kathy in the Dominican Republic. I know for certain my words will not do it justice but here goes. Switching off from our busy world is one of the hardest things to do in life, but coming on this retreat takes you to a place of peace, joy and complete relaxation (despite the hard workouts!!). The hotel is very chill, simple, not luxurious but it has its own vibe that you just melt into. Kathy creates an experience that challenges you physically and mentally but nourishes your mind, body and soul. Whether it is meditating on the beach, holding strong in Warrior 3 or deadlifting weights during the gym sessions, you know that it will flow in a way that makes sense. Caring for your muscles and mind as you go through the day. There is always plenty of downtime to enjoy the beautiful beach and ocean and you never feel harried. I even kept my phone in my room and did not miss it! The food on retreat is amazing, 80% of it taken from the hotel's own local organic farm. You can stay on program or if you want to add the odd extra you should feel free (no lie the sushi is delish). This is not one of those retreats where you are made to feel ashamed if you want a glass of wine, or a plate of fries, but honestly the food is so good you don't really want to stray! If you are new to yoga / retreats or an expert you will love this. Kathy is very good at making sure you understand the pose or flow and the meaning behind everything, then giving you opportunities to stretch yourself. This sounds like a small thing but if you are a starter being able to achieve the pose is such a great feeling as opposed to thinking I can't do it, so whats the modification! I just cant recommend Kathy and her retreats enough. This is my third (second one here in the DR) and I look forward to them so much. I have already booked to come back next year. Give it a try, you won't regret it!! #livinglife
