After breakfast, your second day of journeying begins. Arising out of the timberland into the monster heather zone and up onto fine open moorland to camp by the Shira Cave at 3,840m. The present climb is around 4-5 hours with a discretionary stroll in the early evening to see entrancing land highlights in the old volcanic caldera.

Today you trip to Lava Tower prior to plunging down into the shielded Barranco Valley to camp. It ought to assist with acclimatization to move high and afterward rest lower.

Hike up to a new camp perched on a rocky bluff. The camp offers fantastic views across to Mawenzi peak and being 150m higer than Barafu campsite there is a little distance to climb to the summit. This is another short walking day of about 4-5 hours. You will have dinner early and rest for as long as possible in preparation for the summit day.

You will be woken at around 12 PM for a hot beverage and nibble before you start the climb to the highest point. The point is to arrive at Uhuru Peak at the crack of dawn to appreciate grand perspectives across the mountain. The rising to the highest point, at 5,895m, requires something like 7 hours before you slip to the new Rau campground at 3,400m, requiring around 5 hours. This is a drawn out day with a great deal of journeying yet you will feel euphoric when you've done it!
