Following a decent night's rest and a good breakfast, we rise out of the tropical jungle and progress forward with a climbing way, through heathland, searching for monster lobelias and groundsels. Go on up into open moorlands where little bushes are the principal vegetation. Stop most of the way for lunch, to appreciate astonishing perspectives on mawenzi. Show up at the horombo huts late evening underneath the marvelous kibo summit perspective. Temperatures start to drop.

After breakfast, we progress forward through the lessening heathland that mixes into a moonscape as you enter the broad seat interfacing mawenzi and kibo. Here while we stop for lunch, and some other time when you cross this shockingly enormous seat, you can look at the culmination move up kibo that you will be beginning in only a couple of hours.
