About this trip

Every year, the vast heads of wildebeest embark on a long –distance migration that happen together with the annual rainfall patterns and grass growth. Following the short rainy season in November, the herds of wildebeest arrive to the short grass plains of the Serengeti National Parkaround November. The short-grass plains are located in the area east and southern of the Seronera, around Ndutu area and the north of Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Herds of wildebeest and zebra can be spotted across these plains as they feed on the nutrient rich grasses. The majority of the gnu calve around February. They normally stay in the Area till April and then start going west toward to the Western Corridor of the Serengeti.

Itinerary

DAY 01 Arusha
Ngorongoro Crater

On this day you leave Moshi or Arusha town; the base town for safaris in the northern Tanzania and along the Arusha – Dodoma highway a scenic drive towards the Ngorongoro National Park. You will pass by a supermarket (if you wish) for some last-minute shopping of any personal effects that you may need then drive. You’ll arrive Ngorongoro after 3 hours then we’ll descend over 600m to the crater to view the wildlife in it.

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely crowded African wildlife areas in the world and is home to an estimated 30,000 animals including some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino.

Supported by a year-round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro National Park supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant Africanelephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park, is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. We will also visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the south western corner, which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos and other water birds can usually be seen here.
