About this trip

Nervous System-Informed Yoga | 50-Hour YACEP Supported Study

Deepen your understanding. Teach with greater awareness. Create spaces where students can feel supported, empowered, and connected.

The Nervous System-Informed Yoga 50-Hour YACEP Supported Study with Kootenay Yoga School is designed for yoga teachers who want to better understand the relationship between the nervous system, movement, breath, stress, regulation, resilience, rest, and the experience of yoga.

This course encourages teachers to look beyond poses and sequencing and begin considering what may be happening within the whole person in front of them. Through independent research, embodied practice, reflection, and practical application, students will explore how nervous-system awareness can influence the way we cue, pace, sequence, communicate, offer choice, create safety, and hold space.

This is a self-driven, practical continuing-education experience with two ways to participate: complete the program independently from home, or join us in person for an immersive supported-study experience alongside a Kootenay Yoga School 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training.

Choose Your Learning Experience

Study From Home — Self-Paced

Complete the 50-hour program individually from the comfort of your own home and at a pace that works with your life.

You will move through the course manual, assigned research, readings, reflections, practical observations, written assignments, seminar development, and movement-class planning independently, while receiving guidance from a Kootenay Yoga School representative for assistance, accountability, questions, and program coordination.

This option is ideal for teachers who want meaningful continuing education while maintaining the flexibility to integrate their learning around work, family, teaching, and everyday life.

In-Person Supported Study — 1 Week to 1 Month

For teachers seeking a more immersive experience, join us in person at one of our three Kootenay Yoga School training locations:

Isla Mujeres, Mexico • Joshua Tree, California • Christina Lake, British Columbia, Canada

Our standard supported-study experience is approximately one week, with the opportunity to extend your stay to two weeks or up to one month. Discounted rates may be available for extended stays.

The in-person program takes place alongside one of our regularly scheduled 200-hour Yoga Teacher Trainings, creating a unique environment in which you can focus deeply on your individual area of study while remaining connected to an active yoga-learning community.

There will be clear protocols in place to maintain the integrity, schedule, and learning environment of our YTT students. At the same time, our YACEP students may have opportunities for appropriate interaction, observation, shared practices, discussion, and practical teaching experience when the YTT schedule allows.

A particularly important part of the in-person experience is the opportunity to take what you have researched and teach it to real students.

As part of your final integration, you will develop and deliver a 90-minute Nervous System-Informed Yoga seminar and a 60-minute physical movement class designed to demonstrate how nervous-system awareness can meaningfully influence teaching choices. When scheduling allows, these presentations will be delivered to our YTT-200 students, giving you the opportunity to move from research and theory into confident, practical teaching.

Your Location. Your Timeline. Your Study.

Our supported-study dates are intentionally flexible; however, all in-person dates must be coordinated with Kootenay Yoga School, as YACEP supported study takes place alongside our existing YTT programming.

Programs are available throughout the year, but your exact experience will depend upon the location and date range you select.

Meals, excursions, ceremonies, morning practices, specialty classes, sound healing, Yoga Nidra, workshops, community activities, and opportunities to participate in portions of the YTT experience are location- and schedule-dependent. This means that no two supported-study experiences will necessarily look exactly the same.

We encourage you to reach out before booking so we can help you select the location, dates, length of stay, and learning environment that best support what you hope to gain from the course.

Whether you choose to study independently from home or immerse yourself in one of our training communities, the intention remains the same:

To move beyond simply teaching yoga poses and develop a deeper understanding of the human experience — creating classes that are thoughtful, choice-centered, responsive, inclusive, and informed by an understanding of the nervous system.
