About this trip

This retreat is designed for women who want a more thoughtful way to enter the underwater world — through scuba diving: breathing from a tank, moving with intention through coral reefs, guided by someone who knows exactly what they're doing. Scuba is extraordinary for beginners. There is nothing between you and the reef but water, and the learning curve — when it's taught well — is gentle and deeply rewarding.

The base retreat covers your certification course and your home in Moalboal. Moalboal's most iconic encounters — the sardine run, the sea turtle reef, and the Five Guardians statues at Alegria — are available as optional add-ons, so you can shape the week to the version of Moalboal you came for. If you add PADI certification, training is conducted by certified instructors at Cebu Fun Divers, a PADI 5-Star centre set directly on Panagsama Beach, with the sardine run beginning just metres from their shore.

Not a performance retreat. Not a competition. Just you, your breath, and the ocean floor.

About Moalboal

Moalboal sits on the southwestern coast of Cebu, and it is one of those places that surprises you. The town is quiet, the beaches are small, and the pace is unhurried — but step into the water and the scale of what is here becomes immediately clear. The sardine run unfolds just metres from shore: millions of fish moving together in shifting, silver formations that catch the light and change shape with every breath. Sea turtles feed along the reef in the same stretch of water, unhurried and completely unbothered by the presence of careful, quiet divers.

Moalboal sits within the Coral Triangle — widely considered the most biodiverse marine ecosystem on the planet. Lush coral reefs, reef sharks, and Pescador Island's thriving underwater walls are all within easy reach, visited in small, unhurried groups that prioritise quality of experience over volume.

Further along the coast, the village of Alegria holds the Five Guardians — submerged statues originally placed to discourage destructive fishing and protect the surrounding reef. Over time, coral and marine life have made them part of the living underwater environment: a site where conservation and beauty have grown together beneath the surface.

A note on certification

You choose your level when you add certification. PADI Open Water (beginner) is the entry-level scuba certification and runs over three days. It covers the theory and physics of scuba diving, confined water pool sessions, and open water dives — everything you need to dive safely and independently anywhere in the world. No prior experience is required.

PADI Advanced Open Water is for those who already hold an Open Water certification and want to expand their range — deeper dives, navigation, buoyancy refinement, and specialty underwater skills. This course runs over two days and includes adventure dives in open water.

Your training is conducted by certified PADI instructors at Cebu Fun Divers. The centre focuses on buoyancy, marine awareness, and relaxed technique — qualities that make every dive more meaningful and every subsequent dive safer. Small groups ensure that instruction is personalised and the underwater experience feels unhurried.

The retreat experience

The retreat experience in Moalboal is designed to feel calm, personal, and immersive from the moment you arrive. With many of the area's most memorable underwater sites accessible directly from the beach in front of Cebu Fun Divers, the days unfold with a gentler rhythm than destinations built around long boat journeys or crowded dive schedules.

If you add certification, the first days in the water are dedicated to learning to breathe underwater, to find your buoyancy, and to begin moving through the water with intention and ease. The teaching is unhurried and genuinely adapted to your pace. By the end of the pool sessions, most guests are already looking forward to the open water.

If you add the Five Guardians excursion, a mid-week day takes you to Alegria to dive the submerged statues — now colonised by coral and surrounded by marine life that the reef protection has allowed to return. Diving among them is a different kind of experience: quieter, more unusual, and more connected to the idea that conservation and beauty can exist in the same place.

The final session brings together Moalboal's two most iconic encounters — the sardine run and the turtle reef. The sardine run is one of those things that is genuinely difficult to prepare for: millions of fish moving together in formations that shift and turn in response to light and current, just metres from the shore you've been standing on all week. The turtles, by contrast, are entirely unhurried — feeding slowly along the reef, completely at ease with the quiet presence of careful divers. Both, in the same morning.

Accommodation

You will stay at Sea View Resort, set directly on Panagsama Beach and home to Cebu Fun Divers. Your room, your instructor, and your dive briefings all happen in the same place — the ocean steps from every one of them. For guests who want the most seamless possible experience, with nothing between their room and the reef, this is it.

●    Room type (base retreat): Private Garden Deluxe — single occupancy.

●    Setting: Directly on Panagsama Beach, sardine run metres from the property.

●    On-site: Cebu Fun Divers dive centre, restaurant, beachfront access.

●    Wi-Fi: Included.

●    Air-con: Yes, in all rooms.

●    Upgrade options: Seaview Deluxe or Seaview Premium rooms available as optional add-ons at booking.

All rooms are single occupancy (private). All prices are per person.

Food & Meals Included

Breakfast and light snacks are included every day at Sea View Resort. Lunch and dinner are at your own pace — part of the design of this retreat. Panagsama Beach has a remarkable density of small seafood grills, Filipino warungs, and a handful of international restaurants, all within easy walking distance of the resort.

●    Included: Daily breakfast and afternoon snacks at Sea View Resort.

●    Not included: Lunch and dinner. Local restaurants in Panagsama are excellent and affordable.

●    Dietary needs: Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergen-aware options can be arranged — let us know at booking.

●    Water: Filtered drinking water provided at the resort to refill your bottle.

Who this retreat is for

This retreat is designed for women who want more than a standard dive trip. If you are drawn to the ocean but not sure exactly where to start, if you want to feel safe, guided, and inspired in a small group setting — you are already in the right place.

This retreat is for you if you

●    want to experience the ocean more deeply and more intentionally

●    are curious about scuba diving — the practice of breathing underwater and moving through the ocean in near-silence

●    are drawn to meaningful experiences over performance

●    prefer calm travel with personal flexibility and a slower rhythm

●    are travelling solo and want structure without losing freedom

●    value ethical wildlife encounters and thoughtful ocean travel

This retreat is probably not for you if you

●    are looking for a party or social-first atmosphere

●    prefer fast-paced group tourism or a packed schedule

●    want an intense or competitive training environment

You don't need experience. You don't need to be fearless. You just need to be a little curious — about the water, about yourself, and about what a different kind of travel can feel like.
