About this trip

6 Days to Erg Zahar Sahara Desert. The Desert Hike in Morocco is a walk in the big dunes of southern Morocco with professional nomadic guide and camel drivers. A camel caravan carries the luggage.  The fascination of desert immensities, an unusual encounter with nomads, study and observation of animal and plant life, relaxation, silence, and total forgetfulness of civilization and the modern world in absolute calm in the heart of the great desert of the Moroccan Sahara, at sunrise and unforgettable sunsets.  During the hike, you live according to the rhythm and the intensity of the sun, and everyone advances at his pace accompanied by the camel drivers. Before each stage departure, they gather the camels, who have fed on desert shrubs during the night, collect the wood for the fire, prepare the tea, make the bread baked in the sand. You sleep under the stars, under tents. You will taste the Moroccan cuisine prepared by the camel drivers.

My partner and I did the three day trip from Marrakech to Erg Chigaga with DesertBrise Travel. Originally, we planned to just do a group tour but switched to a private tour the day before and it was an excellent choice. My partner and I have traveled to many different places in the world and this tour was magical. We say villages, beautiful mountains covered with snow, a hidden gem of a Kasbah, the Sahara, and Erg Chigaga. This was certainly the best tour we have ever done in our life. Our driver Mohamad was incredibly skilled at driving, navigation, and spoke excellent English. We was also a great guide giving us tips about Morocco, telling us about the culture, and picking out great view points for pictures. He is from the Sahara and knows the region like the back of his hand. He was able to guide us through the Sahara with no GPS, map, or hesitation. I was beyond impressed and aspire to one day have as great of a sense of direction and driving skill as Mohamad. If you are a photographer, this trip is stellar for photography. The landscapes you will travel through are some of the most spectacular sights. Being from Colorado, I grew up in the mountains but was still stunned by the sights. The sand dunes were probably my favorite natural landscapes I have ever photographed as well. If I could give this trip more than 5 stars I absolutely would. If you are thinking about whether you should do a desert trip or not while you are in Morocco, I will give you the answer right now... YES DO IT! My only regret from the trip is I wish I would have gone for even more days. The desert is incredible and DesertBrise helped make our trip a once-in-a-lifetime travel opportunity.

We can recommend desertbrise-travel.com as a local, experienced and reliable provider for a desert trek. We were on a wonderful 4 day camel trek, walking in different types of desert starting from M’Hamid. Our guides took good care of us, providing insight of the landscape, good food and warm conversations by the fire, and we and the children became friendly with our three camels. Absolutely recommendable.

My husband and I had a great, privat 22-day Grand Tour of Morocco. It was our first trip to Morocco. After contacting Khalil (DesertBrise) with a possible route and places we wanted to see, he made some good suggestions and then organized the whole trip (driver, car, riads/hotels, desert camps, guides, balloon ride, meals). Everything worked perfectly. We had Yousf as our driver for the whole trip. He spoke excellent English and had very good knowledge of the places we visited and areas we drove through. His driving was excellent and the Toyota Prada was in good shape and much appreciated in the desert areas. I would recommend a 4x4 high clearance car for all trips to the desert. We requested to stay in riads or desert camps where possible and Khalil booked accordingly. We were often surprised by a very plain looking door at the end of a small alley. When we entered the riad there was a beautiful court yard often with a fountain and greenery. The tents in the desert camps in Merzouga are quite luxurious and those in Erg Chigaga are more simple. It was great to spend some nights out among the dunes. Of all the places we visited we liked the cities/towns Marrakech, Fes, Taroudant and Chefchaouen and the areas Merzouga (sand dunes), Erg Chigaga (sand dunes), Anti Atlas mountains, Todra gorges and Dades valley the best. The off road drive through the rocky desert and then the sand dunes of Erg Chigaga was definitely a highlight. Do not miss a visit to a large market with fruits, vegetables, live animals, 2nd hand cloths etc. We were not so impressed by the coast and the balloon ride in Marrakesh (safe but not much to see). We would definitely book with DesertBrise again. Thank-you Khalil and Yousf for a great trip
