The Machame route (Whiskey route) begins from the south, then heads east, traversing underneath Kilimanjaro's southern ice field before summiting.

The required minimum number of days to complete the route is six days. Itinerary

Day 1
Machame Gate Machame Camp

 • Rising (ft.) :( 3,000m): 5-.6, 000ft. / 1,830m to 10,200ft / 3,100m

 • Stretch: 11 km

 • Hiking time: 5-7 hours

 • Climatic habitat: Montane Forest

 • Shelter: Machame Camp.

The drive from Moshi to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Gate takes about 50 minutes. Along the journey drive to Machame gate, hiker(s) will pass through the village of Machame which is located on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. Climber(s) will now depart the park gate and walk through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge. Lower down the trail can be muddy and slippery. Gaiters and trekking poles are recommended and are an excellent idea here! Climber(s) will now continue a short distance until we reach the Machame encampment.
