As we rise higher and into the forest on Mount Kilimanjaro, the hike gets steeper. The terrain immediately transforms to rocky outcrops, limited flora, and enormous heathers in this area. As it approaches Barranco Valley, which offers stunning views of Kibo Peak and Moshi, the trail ascends a steep slope before becoming more level. Once at camp, there will be extra time to tour the neighborhood.

Our first challenge is a climb and struggle up the 1,200-foot Barranco Wall's volcanic granite. We take a well-earned lunch break and enjoy stunning views of Mount Meru and Barafu after reaching the summit. To get to the campsite in the Karanga Valley, we keep travelling across peaks and valleys. This brief day is intended to help you acclimatize.

We depart Karanga after breakfast and arrive at the intersection with the Mweka Trail. Up ahead, we reach Barafu Hut. We have now finished the Southern Circuit, which provides numerous perspectives of the summit. Here, we set up camp, take a nap, eat a leisurely dinner, and get ready for the summit day. From here, one can see Mawenzi and Kibo, two peaks.

We bundled ourselves in several layers very early in the morning (midnight) and started the ascent to the summit. As we approach Stella Point on the crater rim, we move northwest and climb through steep scree. This section is the hardest part of the walk, both physically and mentally. We take a brief break at Stella Point (18,600 feet), where you will be treated to the most spectacular sunrise you are ever likely to see. We have about one hour left from Stella Point to the peak. You have now arrived at Uhuru Peak, the highest peak on Mount Kilimanjaro and the African continent. The sunrise can be seen from the peak by hikers moving more quickly. After breakfast, we continue the descent to the Mweka Park Gate, where you can pick up your summit certificates.It could be muddy and damp at lower altitudes. Trekking poles and gaiters will be useful. Most likely, shorts and t-shirts will suffice (keep rain gear and warmer clothing on hand).Your ride from Amazon Safari will be waiting for you at the Mweka gate to take you back to your Moshi hotel.
