Our course progresses forward up through the timberland until we arrive at the precarious rising onto the Shira Plateau, where there are compensating perspectives on the mountain. Thinking back, you will actually want to see Mt Meru ascending high above Arusha town somewhere out there.

Strolling now on high moorland, the scene changes the whole person of the journey. We cross the southwest side of Kilimanjaro, passing under the Lava Tower and the last segment of the Western Breach lastly arrive at camp The day has been spent at height (up to 4600m), yet we have followed the mountaineering code of 'walk high, rest low' to help your body's acclimatization to elevation.

Our day begins by diving into the beginning of the Great Barranco, an immense gorge. We then, at that point, exit steeply, up the Great Barranco Wall, what isolates us from the southeastern inclines of Kibo. It's a move over rock, not specialized however lengthy and tiring. Passing under the Heim and Kersten glacial masses, we head towards the Karanga valley. From here we have a lofty move up from Karanga valley to our night's camp at Karanga camp, set at 3963m. For those feeling solid we will go for a mid-evening acclimatization journey up to around 4200m prior to diving back to camp for the evening.

Following a decent night's rest and breakfast, we set off on our stroll to Barafu camp at 4640m. The trip will take us across forsaken scree inclines with no vegetation around us by any stretch of the imagination. It's an intense steep walk made more troublesome by the elevation. On showing up at camp we eat and go through the early evening time resting as we get ready for a drawn out night and day ahead. It is essential to keep hydrated and warm. We have an early supper and afterward attempt to get some rest as we will get up at somewhere in the range of 11pm and 12pm to begin the move to the highest point.

We start off at around midnight, and walk steeply upwards to the summit glaciers. We will be climbing scree for 4 to 5 hours but gain incredible height over a short distance. The views are spectacular. We should be on the crater rim at Stella Point (5739m) as the first rays of the sun hit us. Spectacular ice cliffs within the crater surround us and the views to jagged Mawenzi peak and beyond are breathtaking. Another hour's walking takes us to the summit, Uhuru Peak (5895m). We begin our descent by returning to Stella Point and then descending on scree slope and track back to Barafu Camp for breakfast, before finally heading down to Millennium Camp for a long well-earned rest.

 

A delicate journey brings us down through the tropical jungle to Mweka Gate, where we complete park conventions and get declarations, which you can hang up proudly! We are then met by our vehicles and return to the lodging in Moshi, where you can indulge yourself with a welcome shower (and a cool brew or two!) preceding our enormous festival.
