On the second day of the mount Kilimanjaro climbing Via lemosho route Hiker(s) will continue on the trail leading out of the forest and into a savannah of tall grasses, heather, and volcanic rock draped with lichen beards. As we ascend through the lush rolling hills and cross several streams, we reach the Shira Ridge before dropping gently down to Shira 1 camp. The view of Kibo from across the plateau is phenomenal, extraordinary, and amazing.

Today's hike will take you through the alpine desert zone to Shira 2 Camp. From here, you will continue on to Moir Camp, which is situated at the base of Lent Hills. After a short rest and lunch at Moir Camp, you will trek through the highland desert to Lemosho Camp. Today's hike is about 7-8 hours. On  this day you will get an excellent chance for acclimatization opportunity. Shira is one of the highest plateaus on earth. 

Rising (ft.): 13,800ft to 13,000ft

After breakfast at Moir Hut, you will begin your trek towards Lava Tower. The hike will take you through a relatively flat terrain before starting a steep ascent towards Lava Tower, which stands at 15,190 feet (4,633 meters) above sea level. The hike to Lava Tower takes around 4-5 hours, and along the way, you will experience a dramatic change in vegetation as you move from the heath zone to the alpine desert.

After breakfast at Barranco Camp, you will start your ascent up the Barranco Wall, which is one of the most challenging sections of the Lemosho route. The climb up the wall is steep and involves some scrambling, but the views of the surrounding landscape are incredible. Once you reach the top of the wall, you will have a short break before continuing on a relatively flat section of the trail to the Karanga Valley   you'll spend the night at an elevation of 13,100 feet (3,990 meters) above sea level. This helps with the acclimatization process before your ascent to the summit. 

Rising (ft): 15,300ft to 19,345ft (and down to 10,000ft)
Stretch: 5 km ascent / 12 km descent
Hiking time: 7-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent
Climatic habitat: Arctic
You will wake up in the middle of the night, around midnight, for your summit attempt. After a quick breakfast and   some preparation, you will begin your ascent under the starry sky with your headlamps on.  

The hike to the summit will take around 6-7 hours, and you will climb through switchbacks on a steep and rocky trail. The altitude and the cold temperature can make the ascent challenging, but the stunning sunrise and the sense of achievement when you reach the summit will be worth it. You will reach Stella Point, which is located on the crater rim of Uhuru Peak at an altitude of 18,885 feet (5,726 meters) above sea level, after around 5-6 hours of climbing.

After a short rest at Stella Point, you will continue along the crater rim towards Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, which stands at an altitude of 19,341 feet (5,895 meters) above sea level. This final stretch to the summit will take around 1-2 hours, and you will be rewarded with stunning views of the glaciers and the surrounding landscape.

After taking some photos and celebrating your successful summit, you will begin your descent back to Barafu Camp, where you will have a short break and some lunch. You will then continue your descent to Mweka Camp, which is situated at an altitude of 10,065 feet (3,067 meters) above sea level. The descent will take around 4-6 hours and will be through a lush rainforest, where you may spot some monkeys and other wildlife.

On the last day of the Lemosho route climb of Mount Kilimanjaro the hiker(s) continue the descent to the Mweka Park Gate after breakfast to pick up their summit certificates. It could be muddy and damp at lower altitudes. Trekking poles and gaiters will be useful. Most likely, there will be plenty to wear: shorts and t-shirts (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). The trek to Mweka Village takes around an hour from the gate. At Mweka village, a car will be waiting to pick up hikers and take them back to their accommodation in Arusha or Moshi.
