Makalu Base Camp trek spans almost three weeks and provides an opportunity to explore high-altitude terrains, snow-clad landscapes, and ethnic Himalayan lifestyles. Unlike the popular trek to Everest Base Camp, the Makalu trek is less crowded, allowing for a more relaxed journey with more time and places to explore. The trek takes you to the foot of Mt. Makalu, the fifth-highest mountain in the world at 8,481 meters (27,825 feet). Makalu is located in the Khumbu region of northern Nepal, sharing half of its territory with Tibet-China. The mountain has two notable subsidiary peaks, Kangchungtse and Makalu II, standing at 7,678 meters (25,190 feet). The Makalu-Barun valley, a glacier valley on the foot of Makalu peak, is one of the least populated regions in Nepal.

Makalu Base Camp trek is medium-difficult and suitable for average people. If you are moderately fit and have a sense of adventure, you will enjoy this trek. The program is designed to acclimatize you gradually and prevent high-altitude sickness. However, it's recommended that you check your altitude fitness and the itinerary beforehand. The trek is designed for camping arrangements, and everything is handled by our team of experienced Sherpa guides, porters, and cooks who carry the equipment, set up the camp, and provide hot meals at every food break. Along the trail, you'll experience superb views of the south face of Makalu, as well as Everest, Lhotse, Chamlang, and Kanchenjunga. Makalu Barun National Park, established in 1992 as Nepal’s eighth national park, covers 2,330 sq km. This area is a remote wilderness containing some of the last remaining areas of pristine forests and alpine meadows in Nepal. The area receives few foreign trekkers due to its relative inaccessibility.
