Depart with your naturalist guide for Tarangire, Tanzania’s third largest national park and home to a large population of elephants. Majestic baobab trees are a striking feature of the park, capable of dwarfing even the elephants. Much of the park’s wildlife congregates close to the banks of the Tarangire river, which is the only permanent water supply in the area. As well as the elephant – around 6,000 of them – you can also hope to see lion, leopard, cheetah and many different species of herbivore. The day also includes a bush walk and a cultural visit to one of the local semi-nomadic tribes.

After an early morning walk in Tarangire, you depart for Lake Manyara National Park, which stretches from the base of the Rift Valley escarpment to a large soda lake. 

Manyara is known for the diversity of its habitats. As well as the soda lake, there is a lush green ground water forest, home to troops of baboons, blue monkeys and thousands of flamingos.

Manyara is also noted for its numerous buffalo, elephant, giraffe, impala, hippo and, of course, its elusive tree-climbing lions.

Ngorongoro Highlands and stop off at the world-famous Olduvai gorge, where you’ll also have time to visit the informative museum and learn more about the paleoanthropological specimens discovered in the area. We arrive at Seronera, in the heart of the Serengeti in time for lunch, followed by our first game drive in the park. 

Covering over 14,000 sq. km, the Serengeti has the highest concentration of big cats in the world, as well as many other species of fauna. The landscape is more varied than you might expect: as well as the plains, there are hills and woods to the west, kopjes (rocky mounds) in the east, and bush land to the north. There are also several large rivers.

 After breakfast, you enjoy a game drive en route to Seronera airstrip for your onward flight to Zanzibar. Your driver will meet you at Zanzibar airport for the transfer to the magical Nungwi beach, on the North Coast. 

Your accommodation is in the beachfront Z Boutique hotel, which boasts a lovely rooftop bar and an infinity pool.

After breakfast, you have a full day at leisure to enjoy beautiful Zanzibar. You might choose to spend it relaxing on the beach, swimming, snorkelling or diving in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, or you may decide to opt for one of our excursions. 

These include a visit to historic Stone Town, with its coral-coloured stone buildings, narrow alleyways, covered balconies, and spice and fish market, and a tour of local spice plantations, where you can see, smell and taste some of the spices that helped make Zanzibar famous.
