Important Note
Please be prepared for a considerable amount of walking throughout the tour.
This is an extremely active tour with plenty of walking. Although we do take short breaks and time for lunch, there is still much walking to be done on this tour.
As The Traveling Professor returns to Paris after a 5-year hiatus, this tour has been completely reimagined. We want to make this tour as flexible as possible. With that in mind, we will not have licensed guides do presentations at each museum or monument. Instead, your tour leader will lead you on the itinerary and give a compact overview of what you are about to see at each location. And on Saturday, with the tour leader’s guidance, travelers have the freedom to plan their own personal itinerary.
We travel with a small group of 10-12 active adults. This offers the flexibility to do what we want to do, on our own schedule. Everyone is provided with a 6-day Paris Museum Pass with VIP, unlimited admission to all the great sites of the city, even those not on the itinerary. Every traveler is provided with unlimited and free local public transportation on city bus, tram, metro, and RER train. This transportation pass can be used to return to the Paris CDG airport on the last scheduled day of the tour.
Breakfast is included each day of the tour. Every day we plan a relaxing lunch and dinner. Please join us or go out on your own - we are glad to offer our best recommendations.
Our tour leader is with us during the day. Tour leaders are with the group 24/7. Unless otherwise noted, we ask travelers to be ready to go at 9:30 a.m. for a full and active day of touring.
Well before departure date, each traveler is supplied with a “final” detailed itinerary along with a complete and detailed information packet. It has advice on packing, money matters, passports, weather, etc. We make sure travelers are well-prepared. And of course, we are always available to personally answer any questions you may have.
Extra nights in Paris are available upon request.

Bonjour! Arrive in Paris, check in, rest. Since it has been a long travel day, activities start at about 5 p.m. (starting time may be adjusted when all traveler arrival info has been received) with a brief orientation. We get together as a group for dinner (not included in the cost) at a local bistro in the neighborhood.
It’s an exciting full day in the heart of Paris. After breakfast, walk through the historic Latin Quartier district over to Île de la Cité. Visit the famed Notre Dame Cathedral, amazing St. Chapelle and the historic Conciergerie. After lunch, it’s the Tuileries Gardens and Monet’s “Water Lilies” at Musée de l'Orangerie.
A stroll through Luxembourg Gardens. From there march over to Napoleon’s Tomb. Then it’s lunch and time to think about visiting the famed Rodin sculptures at the Rodin Museum. Finish the day in victory at the Arc de Triomphe and a walk down the grand Champs Elysees. If time permits, within walking distance from the hotel are the Pantheon and Luxembourg Gardens with plenty of time to visit.
Travel by train out to the Palace of Versailles. A guided audio tour leads you through the great rooms of this grand chateau, including the Hall of Mirrors and Coronation Room. Return to Paris for some free time. That night, with most of the tourists gone, go to the Louvre to smile at Mona and her friends. A full day of enjoyment!
It is over to the wonderful Musée Orsay where some of the greatest works of art in the world reside. There are just too many Van Gogh, Monet, Sisley and other artists to mention. Of course, we have a break for lunch in the outstanding museum dining room.
This morning, stroll through the authentic and famous Montmartre neighborhood. Along the way, walk through the fascinating Montmartre cemetery and then view the windmills of the Moulin Rouge nightclub. Let’s stop for a coffee at the café from the movie, Amelie. A walk in Montmartre is a journey through the artistic heyday of the Belle Époque, when great painters set up studios on Paris' highest hill. To finish, witness the view from Basilique du Sacré-Cœur and then move inside to take in this amazing basilica.
Now that you have spent a week in Paris, with our guidance, use this day to plan a day to visit places you wanted to see but were not on the itinerary. Another option is to join your tour leader on an enjoyable ramble about Paris, visiting markets and special places of interest. We have some great ideas for you including a trek to the top of the Eiffel Tower, a Seine River cruise, and a visit to the Pere Lachaise cemetery. There is always something magnifique to do in Paris!
It’s get-away day. We help you get to your next destination, safe and sound.
