Senegal's capital and largest city, Dakar, is home to a diversified population, captivating sights, and decades of history. Senegal, a country that the French colonized, will provide an opportunity for you to see how Black people have impacted French culture and its ties to the United States. Additionally, you will discover how Senegalese people's lives are still impacted by France's colonization today in relation to economics, politics, and education. By discovering the city, trying local cuisine, learning about the locals, tasting "teranga," visiting neighborhood markets, and pausing to take in the breathtaking scenery at the African Renaissance Monument, we'll immediately become immersed in the community's culture. We will then travel to Goree Island, a little island off the coast of Dakar without any cars that is famous for its involvement in the transatlantic slave traffic. We'll stop by the House of Slaves and the Door of No Return, which is thought to be one of the places where many men, women, and kids who were taken from Africa to the Americas left for good. You'll learn something about history that you won't learn from a textbook. We'll leave Dakar and go to the stunning Ngor Island for surfing instruction and leisure. Last but not least, we'll travel to the Bandia Reserve outside of Dakar for a safari to see some of the Big 5! At the conclusion of your trip, you'll develop into an explorer who has a genuine appreciation for Senegalese culture as well a stronger sense of connectedness to Africa.
