Experience nature, culture, and Spanish language learning on our 12-day/11-night immersion trip to Guatemala.

This trip is designed for students at the Advanced level, with nearly all activities conducted in Spanish. Your program directors, Chelsea, Eimy, and Pamela will be available to provide translations and language correction when necessary.

Our classroom time will be limited to 16 hours throughout the duration of the 12-day trip. In class, we will learn about Guatemalan history, politics, and culture and enjoy open discussion and debate in Spanish. The remainder of the trip will be filled with opportunities for practical application of Spanish, be it in a cooking class, on a jungle hike, or at the market!

Itinerary

Day One
Arrival to Guatemala & Welcome Dinner

Upon arrival at the La Aurora international airport in Guatemala City, you will be greeted by one of your Tour Leaders.  She will escort you to Antigua Guatemala via private shuttle to get you settled into your hotel and show you around town.

In the evening we will enjoy an interactive Guatemalan cooking class at a small, locally-owned cooking school in Jocotenango, a quick 10-minute drive away from the bustling tourist center of Antigua Guatemala. In addition to the cooking class and dinner, we will have a brief orientation to give you travel tips and tricks as well as discuss ways to be more ethical and responsible travelers.

The Heart of Travel was born out of a deep-rooted love and passion for travel, art, history, food, nature, culture and adventure as well as a call to give back to the communities and people that had already provided us with so much. The travel industry has long been bombarded with double decker tour busses, beach front resorts and cruise ships, often at the expense of the local communities. As a response to this failing system, we began a boutique travel company that allows clients to explore new places in an authentic and non-touristy way, offering travelers a more intimate and unique experience all while removing the stress and hassle of researching, planning, bargain hunting, reserving and more that goes along with planning a trip or vacation.

Absolutely loved this trip. It was well organized. Chelsea & Eimy, and the Heart of the Travel team communicated really well about what was going on each day, how to dress, what to expect. It was a great immersion trip and my husband and I had a great time.

I’ve just returned home from 17 days on Heart of Travel’s first fabulous trip to Spain. We visited Barcelona, Granada, Malaga, Seville, and Madrid— not to mention side trips to the smaller towns of Ronda and Cordoba. Chelsea and Pam amazed me daily! Their ability to research artsy boutique hotels, small family owned businesses for us to experience, along with their attention to detail and ability to respond to glitches was impressive. I loved going into two homes for cooking classes with delightful women. Our guided tour through Sagrada Familia was a highlight as was spending time in Parque Guell in a Barcelona. I thoroughly enjoyed our kayak outing and would have liked to have done a city bike tour for a bit of variety and exercise too! We saw amazing citadels, mosques, cathedrals, and a bullring. Thank you ladies for organizing a wonderful tour and helping to create a “family” of fellow travelers.

I just completed the Oaxaca 2022 Did de Muertos Trip with Heart of Travel and it was amazing. Such a surreal and gratifying experience. Learned so much in regards to the culture and celebrations and customs of the local people and enjoyed learning about their traditions. Heart of Travel made this entire experience so enjoyable and well rounded with cultural immersion experiences. Great accommodation choices and knowledgeable local guides. Their use of local guides to share their knowledge and love for their traditions and home is a great learning experience. I have partake in several of their trips and would highly recommend not only this trip but any they have to offer. They defintiley take care of you. Would travel with them again!!
