This course will be coached and guided by the highly skilled, experienced and delightful Will Holland & Green Wave head coach Liam Green
3 days looking at the skills, knowledge and decision making needed to help progress your canoeing and build confidence while paddling in more technical, challenging and complex rapids.
Based in the centre of the Highlands in Kingussie, we will have a wide variety of rivers to use with the beautiful sections of the Spey, Tay and Findhorn being regularly fed by snowmelt and rain. With good wet conditions we may get the chance to run other rivers as well such as the Roy, Spean, & Avon too. The reason we choose Kingussie is as it is a central location to all these rivers with them all being within or around 1 hour from here.
The Course will start with establishing the group dynamics, a chance to ease into Scottish boating and a focus on building a strong foundation of fundamental skills. As the course progresses and the Scottish weather unveils itself to us, we can choose to apply and give context to these skills by selecting Venues / Rivers that suit the group.
This Time of year can be rather cold so make sure to bring appropriate clothing.
We Recommend the following -
Drysuit ( or thick wetsuit & Cag)
Thermals + extra fleece
B/A ( whistle / Knife / River saw)
Helmet (warm or one that can accommodate a hat underneath)
Kneel matt / knee pads (optional but help a lot with grip)
Boots / trainers ( ideally not booties as these tend to slip on rocks especially in the cold)
2 paddles ( 1 as a spare)
5m bow painter/line
20-25m Swimline
15-20m throw bag for rescue
Bailer ( plus sponge if you want )
