We begin our journey driving south from Quito through the famed “Avenue of the Volcanoes.” If the sky is clear, we will be able to see the peaks of several volcanoes from the road. Once we arrive in Cotopaxi National Park, we start out with a short hike around Limpiopungo Glacier Lagoon. This mountain lake is home to a wealth of highland waterfall, and we observe the local Andean gulls, ducks and falcons while learning about the park’s highland paramo (moorland) ecosystem. Then, we begin an amazing bike ride through the park. Our path will take us from the base of Rumiñahui volcano, where Limpiopungo lagoon is located, across the high plain and around to the south side of Cotopaxi volcano; then, on to the Pucara Inca ruins. The ride is mostly downhill with some flats and a few short, easy climbs. As we bike ride across the high plain paramo (moorland), we keep an eye out for native highland wildlife and take in incredible views of Cotopaxi’s massive, glaciated cone looming above us. Our ride ends at the Pucara Inca ruins near the park’s south entrance. Here we explore the ruins and learn more about the western hemisphere’s most powerful ancient civilization and their history in Ecuador. We sit down to a scenic and delicious picnic lunch next to the volcano before continuing to the hacienda where we spend the night. After stopping for lunch, we will head towards the hacienda where we will spend the night.

After breakfast, we drive through the Avenue of the Volcanoes to the Patate river Valley with beautiful views of the Tungurahua Volcano. This morning, we hop on bikes for a scenic ride through the beautiful landscapes and charming small towns of the Patate River Gorge. After our 2 wheels adventure we arrive to San Martin area to have the next adventure. Here there is the best Zip Line in Ecuador. This Zip line has 930y zip line, followed by a 100y Tibetan bridge that will take you to a 100y via ferrata, where you will climb to the last zip line of 383y. After this amazing chance to fly over the Pastaza River gorge, we are ready to continue to Baños de Agua Santa, a colorful colonial city at an altitude of 5,000 feet above sea level surrounded by a cloud forest. In the late afternoon, we reach our hotel, where we dine and relax for the evening.

In the morning after breakfast, we continue along the Pastaza River Gorge, one of the principal waterways that feed into the Amazon Basin. Here next to the Agoyan waterfall we will start our hike through one of the best single tracks in this area. This is an especially scenic route, with high rock walls giving way to deep cloud forest canyons. We stop to admire some of the spectacular waterfalls in the area, such as Pailón Del Diablo (Devil’s Cauldron) and Manto de la Novia (Bride’s Veil). After a nice day in the cloud forest is time to go back to Baños for a nice time to relax.

This morning after breakfast, we drive to the Amazon Basin, we are going to follow the famous Pastaza River Gorge, after a very scenic drive we are setting out along the Amazon highway to reach our Jungle Lodge. Once we settle into our jungle cabins, our lodge is located at the Llanganates National Park, which extends from the high Andes down into the Amazon basin and is part of an area declared a Biosphere Zone by the United Nations. Here we enjoy the first encounter with Kichwas, this friendly people from the jungle. Here, we learn about their way of life, culture, traditions, and customs of the Amazon. In the afternoon a local lunch, we will hike in the jungle and our local guides explain us about this magic ecosystem, during the hike we will enjoy a group of nice ponds and waterfalls that recharge of energy our bodies. At the end of our hike, we´ll hike back into our jungle cabins ready for a peaceful evening surrounded by rainforest sounds.

After enjoying breakfast in our jungle lodge, we begin the day with a walk in the jungle to reach naturally formed lookout from where we can enjoy the upper part of the jungle. Upon our return and after a safety briefing, our whitewater rafting adventure begins. A trip down the Jatunyacu River offers spectacular jungle scenery, crystal-clear water, and glimpses into indigenous communities that live along the shores in small bamboo and wood houses. The Jatunyacu river is also famed for its big waves, fun holes, and high volume of water (Class III - III+). We’ll spend the rest of the day navigating the Jatunyacu river, whose waters carry us through breathtaking landscapes with abundant bird life. In the afternoon, we drive to our lodge where we have the chance to enjoy the Jacuzzi, pool and a good dinner.

After enjoying breakfast in our jungle lodge, we begin the day with a drive through a couple of indigenous towns. When we´ll arrive to the place where we are going to start and after a safety briefing, our whitewater SUP adventure begins. A trip down the Arajuno River offers spectacular jungle scenery, crystal-clear water, and glimpses into indigenous communities that live along the shores in small bamboo and wood houses. We’ll spend the rest of the day navigating the Arajuno, whose waters carry us through breathtaking landscapes with abundant bird life. In the afternoon, we drive to our lodge where we have the chance to enjoy the Jacuzzi, pool and a good dinner.

We will have the chance to explore the old geological formations that we have in the jungle. Here in this cave the ancient Kichwas celebrated shamanic rituals, here we will explore this chain of caves where we can see the natural formations of stalactites and stalagmites. After this under land experience, we drive back up into the highlands until we reach Papallacta Hot spring resort. Here you can enjoy the famous hot springs in front of your cabin.  In the evening we can enjoy a nice dinner next to this fantastic Andean Forest scenery.

In the morning, we hike in a private cloud forest paramo reserve, where we have the chance to see birds, highland plants, and other Andean wildlife species. After this relax visit, we drive to a Middle of the World monument shaped as a star of eight points, representing pre-colonial and Incan indigenous beliefs that 0º latitude was the center of time and measurement. Here we learn about the importance of the Equator line for the ancient indigenous people and how they found the line without nowadays technology. Lunch on route and then we spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the towns of Otavalo and Peguche. Otavalo handicraft market is considered one of the most important and big in South America. Bargain with locals is one of the highlights here. Then we visit Peguche village, here we spend time with a local weavers’ family that continue working the animals’ wool on the ancient traditional way. They share the secrets of their craft that have been passed down for generations. The evening is spent at a nice cozy local hotel.
