About this trip

Join Hillary Davidson and Jen Raby of Thrive Newport for 5 nights / 6 days of Pilates, wellness, and exploration in the Azores, Portugal.

The Azores are a volcanic land, full of natural, raw beauty, a temperate climate and outdoor activities. Truly an adventure lovers paradise, and just under 5 hours direct from Boston, these islands are known as the "Hawaii of the mid-atlantic" and are not to be missed!

We will be staying on the "Green Island" of Sao Miguel, home to vibrant blue volcanic lakes, black sand beaches, lush natural preserves, and panoramic cliffs. Our days will include hikes to some of the most stunning vistas on the island, soaks in natural volcanic hot springs, and cultural exploration of neighboring villages and cities.

Daily Pilates classes will be offered by Hillary and Jen, and there will also be plenty of time for relaxation amongst the quiet grounds of our 5-star resort. All meals (with the exception of 2 lunches) are included, and will be nourishing, fresh, and delicious, so that you can get a true taste of Azorean fare.

A €500 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your spot on this retreat. The balance is due 120 days prior to departure, and we can set up a payment plan for you if needed. Please email info@solseedretreats.com to inquire about payment plan options.

Trip Insurance

The purchase of travel insurance is required for this trip.

Most policies protect you against potential trip delays or cancellations due to airline issues, family emergencies, illness, injury, etc. The travel insurance will also demonstrate to the host country that you are able to pay for any emergency services which may be necessary during your stay.

SolSeed is not authorized to sell travel insurance. Any offer to purchase travel insurance that you encounter during the checkout process are third party offers. You are free to select your own policy provider. If you would like to review options in a convenient online marketplace, we like what www.insuremytrip.com has put together. We have also had great experience with Trawick International and their customer service, and heard very good things from AAA Members who have purchased their travel insurance through AAA.

We strongly encourage you to speak with a travel insurance agent to discuss your specific coverage needs, and to clear up any questions you may have relative to travel insurance coverage, including questions about COVID-19.

Please make sure you purchase a plan that includes coverage for COVID-19 related trip cancellations and trip interruptions as not all do.

Flight Parameters

We recommend booking flights directly through Azores Air, the airline that flies from Boston to the Azores.

Departure City: Boston (BOS)

Arrival City: Ponta Delgada (PDL)

Retreat departure date: Saturday, October 15th

Yes, this is correct - the flight is a red-eye so you leave Saturday night and arrive in the Azores early on the morning of Sunday, October 16th, the start date of your retreat.

Retreat return date: Friday, October 21st

Select these flight options, unless you are spending more time on the island:

S4224 - 21:15 departure from BOS on 10/15, arriving in PDL at 06:10 on 10/16

S4281 - 18:00 departure from PDL, arriving in BOS at 19:50 on 10/21

If you book flights outside of these parameters, you will be responsible for paying for your own transfer (budget about 20 Euro for this each way), but we can still help to coordinate it for you.

If you are flying from a city other than Boston, we recommend connecting via Boston on this direct flight, and allowing a minimum of 2.5 - 3 hours connection time between your flights.

This trip was an A+++. The hotel was beautiful, in a great location - can walk to town or beach, or take a quick cab ride. The staff was professional, considerate, friendly. Everything was so luxurious. The food at the hotel was superb. The spa and the grounds - beautiful, clean, peaceful. This review probably does not seem real - but it is. It was a magical trip. The planned excursions were very well organized. The drivers and guides - wonderful, friendly, helpful, eager to share their knowledge. And the drivers were so skilled! Driving in the Azores is no joke! The dinners out were amazing. You all really did a great job making us feel pampered, showing us the amazing sights and tastes of the Azores. Oh- and the picnics from Maria. So Wonderful! We were just sad we could not have a cooking lesson at her house. Finally - Tina is a gem. She made it all run smoothly and it was a joy to get to know her.

This twice rescheduled trip from 2020 did not disappoint! The Azores are a very special place- spectacular views, great food and a great group of people. We had dinner together every night which I think really helped people to to know each other. I think the balance of activities and off-time was just right. We could explore in own and everyone got to do just what they wanted. Stephanie and Katie kept our practices fun and challenging! They have always been two of my favorite teachers so I was looking forward to get to know them better. Two super special women! It was so great to meet Kristin and Ian after two years! I would go on another one of their trips without hesitation! Tina kept everyone informed and took us to some really special places! I will miss Tina Time! Thank you!!! Maggie D-D

My first yoga retreat, and I can't imagine ever topping this experience. I knew the yoga practice would be great under Petra's leadership — as always, she skillfully planned classes for the range of experience of participants, and brought so many extra dimensions: a theme that carried through the whole week and related to the physical setting, a peaceful meditation before the morning practice, etc. I didn't know what to expect from the accommodations at Santa Barbara Eco-Beach resort, which were beautiful, comfortable, and quiet, surrounded by well-designed, low-key coastal landscaping. Felt like you were in nature yet pampered. Fabulous kitchen, could go on and on about the food. Nice staff (some a little short on English, and planning for massage appointments could have been better). Solseed personnel were always friendly and efficient, made sure we knew all Covid testing protocols. Our local rep unfortunately had to isolate for much of the week, but she was always there to deal with questions. The people contracted to lead hikes and cater picnics were terrific. And São Miguel island itself was a revelation: I was happy to experience and learn about this gorgeous and fascinating place; also happy to be there in a quiet season. Tourism pressure will no doubt grow but I hope they can deal with it and not lose the character of the place.

Amazing trip from start to finish! Yoga was wonderful, great people. Loved the hiking trips with Maria picnic. Accommodations were exceptional comfortable and spacious and beautiful. Food was excellent, fresh and delicious. Breakfast was very slow and could have been more efficient. Loved the farmhouse meal. Loved the experience!

Exceptional trip! Beautiful location in the Azores and a perfect mix of schedules and free time. Tina, guide with a great deal of local knowledge was helpful, fun and responsive. Kristen and Ian are very skilled at putting trips together that highlight local scenery and people. Highly recommend traveling with Solseed!
