Colourwork Adventures with MJ Muckelstone
Class Level: Some experience with stranded colourwork
This lively course offers a practical exploration of colour selection in stranded colourwork. We will learn about the use of colour in traditional Fair Isle knitting and move beyond developing our own personal colour schemes. We’ll familiarize ourselves with the basics of color theory using the colour wheel, a helpful tool that will help us understand the dynamics of colour combinations.
Immersing ourselves in the breathtaking surroundings of Pender Island, we will observe and draw inspiration from the natural palette. We will have a colour scavenger hunt! This experience will enhance our ability to create harmonious and visually appealing colour arrangements. Knitting a quick and stylish wristlet will quickly illustrate new concepts.
Yarn: Kit provided
Needles and Notions: 3.25mm [US3] dps or your preferred needles for working small-diameter pieces in the round. Stitch markers and tapestry needle. Coloured pencils if desired.
Homework: None
Un-dyed Exploration: Colourwork with Neutrals with Andrea Rangel
Class Level: some experience with stranded colourwork
Join designer and author Andrea Rangel in exploring colour value in knitting and how neutrals can express a multitude of creative ideas. We’ll get hands-on practice applying basic colour theory ideas to our knitting and playing with un-dyed shades from Hinterland Yarns.
Andrea is the author of AlterKnit and KnitOvation Stitch Dictionaries, both all about colourwork, and she’s designed over 150 knitting patterns.
Intentional choices about colour value are essential to making successful colourwork projects. Find the joy of neutral colourwork in this fun workshop!
After this class you’ll be able to:
- Understand colour value and how relative lightness and darkness make a difference in colourwork fabric
- Confidently choose colours that have just the contrast you want for your project
- Create your own, unique project in un-dyed yarns
