About this trip

Grab your safari hat, binoculars and don’t forget your camera because your friends are not going to believe your stories on this African Safari in Uganda!

Straight out of the pages of a National Geographic Magazine, Uganda offers intrepid travelers a chance to live like an explorer. This epic journey is a combination of observational game drives through wildlife parks, and on-the-ground up-close encounters with some of the world’s most endangered animals like rhinos and, Chimpanzees, and  Mountain Gorillas.

The adventure begins in Entebbe and follows a game circuit north, west, and returns south to Entebbe. We will explore wooded savannas, grasslands, tributaries of the Nile River, and mountain tropical cloud forest. Lodges are 4-star with delicious food and comfortable accommodations.

More off-the-beaten than more popular East Africa countries, Uganda is known for its friendly people, and high concentrations of animals in smaller game reserves. You will see the iconic animals of Africa, but the primates are the highlight of this safari! The grand finale is a ranger-led small group trek into the home of highly endangered wild Mountain Gorillas & Chimpanzees.

This active educational travel adventure is for any healthy adult from beginner to seasoned traveler. All skill levels welcome. No experience necessary. Anyone age 18+ welcome.

Trip Highlights:

  • Walk with the last rhinos in Uganda in their natural habitat.
  • Experience spectacular game drives in Uganda’s National Parks full of amazing mammals, reptiles, and birds!
  • Go Big! Photograph the largest mammals: elephants, giraffes, cape buffalo, and hippos in the wild.
  • Get close to our closest genetic animal relative, on a chimpanzee tracking expedition in the Kimbale National Forest.
  • Stay at lodges in beautiful locations near national parks and in the country-side.
  • See tree-climbing lions of Ishasha in Queen Elizabeth Nation Park.
  • Life-changing up close encounters with endangered mountain gorillas in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

A note about physical fitness

No experience is necessary. For trekking, participants should be healthy, know their limits, and be able to walk 4-6 miles on rolling and uneven terrain which could be steep and slippery depending on the conditions. Hiking trails for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking vary from easy, medium, and strenuous. Trails assignments are based on the participants’ abilities, but subject to park rangers’ authority and number of trekkers that day.  During gorilla trekking, each participant has a porter who will carry his/her day pack, and always there to lend a helping hand. If you have concerns about hiking, please contact us. to discuss.

Lodging

We stay at a variety of eco-lodges on the edge of the parks and protected areas. You will not be staying in safari tents. Each lodge is modest, clean, and the staff are friendly. Accommodations are surrounded by beautiful scenery and sometimes animals come through the property. All will have hot water, and solar electricity or generators for power. From luxury accommodations to economical properties, they are at the mercy of a 3rd world infrastructure and the fates. Your packing list will include a headlamp and wet wipes for the possible chance that you could be without running water or electricity for a night. When I visited the locations in 2018, I only had one night where there wasn’t hot water or electricity in my cabin. I did have cold bottled water, a delicious meal, and hippos talking to each other while grazing in my yard that night. It was worth the trade off.

Here is a list of scheduled locations. These are subject to change and can be substituted for similar accommodations.

The WI Northwoods Adventure was great. This was my first Green Edventures trip. We had fabulous weather and plenty of activities. I didn't expect the wealth of knowledge and the wonderful leaders. I learned so much about nature and the land and the water and we were so busy - from the geology tour of waterfalls with Mike (who can brag about holding a 4+ billion year old meteorite? Me!), biking with Joe, bog hiking with Mary, mad canoeing with Rod to beat the rain back to the dock, and walking over the eskers in the woods with John, not to forget Licia, Emily, Rachel and Lori on the home front. And speaking of the home front, the meals repeared by Wild Whisk, Lola and (another) Lori, were fantastic. I know I'm forgetting someone, but everyone we met was terrific. It was a great, great week with a lively and fun bunch of women. I hated for it to be over and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Fun times!

This is my second Green Edventures women's tour. I had a small tumble from an E-bike, but it did not stop me from hiking in beautiful State parks, canoeing on fabulous lakes and rivers, touring a cranberry farm, seeing a noted weaver's studio, listening to guides and lecturers share their vast knowledge of the great outdoors, and much more. Great food catered to one's needs, great times, great people. Group leader Lori Anderson kept us organized and moving in a timely manner, so we didn't miss a thing. Rachel and Licia from the Discovery Center were just the best. The only "problem" is choosing which women's tour to go on next!

Amazing trip in a lot of ways! The Aggripah staff were wonderful cooks and guides. The scenery was out of this world. The experience of being in the wilderness will never be forgotten. My mettle was tested when it got very cold and windy, heavy dry bags to pack, and sleeping on the hard ground before I realized how the Thermarest was suppose to work. Meeting different types of women all over the U.S. with different thought patterns and lives than mine was eye opening. It was a demanding trip yet doable and educational. I believe the trip has strengthen my character. I would highly recommend the trip but the trip is not for the faint hearted!

Thanks for taking the time to write your review, Ida. It was nice to meet you and glad you will have lifelong memories of your trip to Idaho on your first Green Edventures trip. The water condition in August were perfect and provided the right amount of float time with some exciting rapids, which you even took a solo run in a kayak! I know you had some experience already, but kudos to you!!! I would like to say to anyone reading this that our trips are meant to help you step outside your comfort zone. You will always be in an environment where you can ask for and receive help (e.g. equipment use and instruction). Wilderness experiences can be unpredictable, that is the nature of wilderness. We work very hard to minimize risk and increase their comfort by making sure everyone is prepared by providing an extremely detailed packing list. This way, participants have the right clothing and they don't bring too much stuff. We camp 4 nights and it is a team effort to unload all of the gear from the boats to the beach. The more efficient you are at packing the lighter your load. Regardless of what you bring, there is help available if you ask. Idaho in August can be cold and hot, and windy. Plan for it all.

I absolutely loved this Salmon River rafting trip with Tara Short and Green Edventures. Tara is very experienced in providing the perfect vacation adventure and always teams up with excellent partners such as Aggipah River Rafters. I loved the entire experience and enjoyed the challenges getting there and along the River but always felt safe. Great, great food, highly skilled and super friendly staff and other partners made the trip so memorable! Thanks once again Tara!

I just returned from the Wisconsin Women's Tour and couldn't have asked for a better trip! For me, the amount and type of activity were perfect. Who know there was so much to discover practically in my own backyard?
