Depart for a full day city tour of Accra visiting the University of Ghana Campus which was founded in 1948; it is the oldest and largest of the six Ghanaian public universities. Of interest is its distinct Japanese architecture.

Continue to visit the National Museum of History and Ethnography with exhibits that reflect the heritage of Ghana through-out history to the present. This Museum houses a varied collection of Ghanaian artifacts.

Visit W.E.B. Du Bois Centre for Pan Africanism; this is the final burial place and home of the prominent American Pan Afternoon free for your personal activities Africanist Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois, who led the Pan-African congress between 1919 and 1927. It is currently a Pan African Center for culture and it also has a research library and gallery full of manuscripts.

Proceed after lunch to visit Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, burial place of the first President of Ghana. This Mausoleum has been visited by many world dignitaries.

Drive past the Independence Arch and the Black Star Square, Accra’s ceremonial grounds, to visit the Arts and Crafts market. View from the distance, Christiansborg Castle, former office and residence of the President of Ghana. Your last stop for the tour will be at the Arts and Crafts market where you may try out your bargaining skills on the local vendors and to “shop till you drop”.

Depart for Accra via visit to Aburi Botanical Gardens established in 1890 as a convalescent for the British Colonial officers governing the then Gold Coast now Ghana and relax under the shade of huge trees, some of which are over hundred years old. The Aburi Botanical Gardens were designed for Scientific Research and Pleasure.

It is a habitat for plants from all over the world.

Over the years, the Garden has cultured a variety of tropical plants, which attract many birds and butterflies.

Evening: Join hundreds of Ghana to observe the re-enactment Eve of March 6, 1957 – Kwame Nkrumah surrounded by the rest of the “Big Six” delivers his Independence Declaration Speech with a heavy touch of Nzema accent betraying his English pronunciations. “At long last, the battle has ended! And thus, Ghana, your beloved country is FREE FOREVER” The people at the Old Polo Grounds go ecstatic!!! Yeah!!!!! A few minutes later, Kwame Nkrumah goes on to say “OUR INDEPENDENCE IS MEANINGLESS UNLESS IT IS LINKED UP WITH THE TOTAL LIBERATION OF AFRICA”. We are all aware of Nkrumah’s legacy. He advocated for Pan-Africanism to fight colonialism on the continent.

Depart for Busua in the Western Region. Drive along fishing communities, coconut lined beach and Oil Palm plantation.

Stop enroute at Elmina to visit the Elmina Castle, the first and oldest European structure built of any substance on African soil. This was built by the Portuguese in1482 and later used as an auction market for a comprehensive guided tour. See the slave dungeons and condemn cells where slave who attempted to escape were incarcerated. View its utterly distinct architecture.

Depart after breakfast to the pristine Kakum National Park. Go on a morning walk of the ‘Kuntan Trail’ with its countless trees with medicinal properties. Continue to visit the Cape Coast Castle, another UNESCO World Heritage Site which was originally started by the Swedes in 1652. It served as the headquarters and seat of the British colonial government until 1877. Go on a comprehensive tour of the Castle, the slave dungeons and the West African Heritage Museum, and the negotiation hall where our ancestors were bargained for and sold.
