We hit the Sã Paulo streets for a morning tour of AfroSão Paulo sites. We have lunch at our favorite West African restaurant and end the afternoon with a visit to the AfroBrazilian museum. A huge museum with beautiful art, artifacts and information about the African history and contemporary.

We will depart to Bahia arriving in the afternoon! We will enjoy our first night's dinner at our favorite restaurant in Salvador!

On November 20th’s Black Consciousness Day the city will be alive with music, culture, and celebration feel free to roam or plan.

Suggested Activity:

There will be a long walk, starting from the headquarters of Ilê Aiyê (Salvador's first AfroBloco/ AfroBrazilian street group), located in Liberdade, a Black peripheral neighborhood to Pelourinho. Liberdade is a center for Afro-Brazilian cultural institutions. This is where Curuzu is located, the headquarters of Ilê Aiyê. This is a highlight of the Black November festivities.

Ensure you get to bed at a decent hour because the next day is jam-packed with activities all day long.

The National Museum of Afro-Brazilian Culture (MUNCAB) is a museum that emphasizes the appreciation of aspects of African-origin culture, highlighting its influence on Brazilian culture.

Today is a long day so come with all your high energy and good vibes!

Spend the day immersed in the vibrant heart of Afro-Brazilian culture as we journey through Salvador, Bahia—a city of ancestral memory and living tradition. We’ll explore key historical and cultural sites that illuminate the enduring legacy of Africa in Brazil,  including the cobblestone streets of Pelourinho, the city’s colonial center and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, we’ll visit churches built by Africans, and learn about Salvador’s position in the transatlantic slave trade.

You'll gain insight into the spiritual practices that have survived and thrived in resistance. If you have traveled previously with us to Cuba and/or Panama you will see connections and threads connecting these African spiritualities. 

With stories of resilience, revolution, and rhythm, this tour is a deep dive into the soul of Salvador. Come ready to walk and witness the richness of Afro-Brazilian history that continues to shape the city’s present.

Today, we embark on an exciting excursion of Quilombo Heritage, a traditional Quilombola community. Throughout the day, we will explore the daily life and  cultural history of these slef-emancipated African settlements. 

The Recôncavo Bay is a region steeped in the history of Brazil’s fight for independence. Our excursion begins in Santo Amaro, a city whose economy was historically driven by sugarcane plantations and enslaved labor. 

Next, we’ll journey through sugarcane, cassava, and tobacco plantations on our way to the Kaonge Quilombo. In the afternoon, we’ll continue to the historic city of Cachoeira-Ba. We’ll cross the Paraguaçu River via a bridge overseen by the British in 1830, heading to the Danneman cigar factory. Finally, we’ll return to Salvador in the early evening.

We travel by ferry to the neighboring island of Itaparica.  Itaparica is a tranquil island just off the coast of Salvador, Bahia, known for its beautiful beaches, architecture, and rich Afro-Brazilian history. Once a key site in Brazil's fight for independence and home to Quilombos, Itaparica offers a mix of natural beauty and historical depth, all surrounded by warm waters and lush landscapes.

This is travel day out of Salvador, you can choose to extend your trip independently. You can purchase departure flights back to Sao Paulo from GOL, LatAm and others.
