About your trip

A natural bird reserve just an hour and 15 minutes away from Quito. A family dedicated to take care the Cloud Forest in Ecuador South America. Several native species can be spotted into the western foothills of the Andes. Alambi reserve is located in the lower part of the Tandayapa Valley inside of the Choco Andino. El Choco has been declared a “Model Forest”, one of only 28 such sites worldwide. An ideal place to see between 60 and 80 species of birds. Alambi is located in the Cloud Forest that has been recovered in the last 20 years. At an altitude of approximately 1,600 msl /5,249 feet. It is crossed mainly by the Alambi river that originates near the Wawa Pichincha volcano. Its average temperature is 15° C / 59°  Fahrenheit. Alambi Reserve or hummingbird Sanctuary is located at the lower part of the Bellavista Cloud Forest.  Easy Accessibility – Unlike some remote birding spots, Alambi reserve is relatively close to Quito city, making it convenient for a day trip or a short visit.

Explore the Alambi reserve and the Tandayapa Valley

First part of the journey

The pick time will be at 4:30 a.m. to be transferred to the Alambi reserve. The drive will take about one hour and a half. 


Ready for the adventure

The tour will start on the trails of the reserve to observe several species of birds native to the montane forest located at 1,600 masl / 5,200 feet. 


Hummingbird Sanctuary

A special moment to share with several species of hummingbirds.  


Brunch time

We will enjoy Ecuadorian food, which in recent years has become famous for its variety and flavor. 


Return to Quito

At noon we will be leaving the reserve to return to the city of Quito.
